Going back to Gerrard's tackle against Everton in 2002, and without being biased, I don't think that was deliberate either. He won the ball, and when jumping over the defender's challenge, his foot caught the Everton players trailing leg. I thought the ref made the correct decision at the the time, and Gerrard shouldn't have been later punished for what I saw as an accident.
