As regards placing Keegan in the same managerial bracket as Hitzfeld, your doing the German a massive disservice. Champions Lge winner with Bayern and Dortmund and has all the credentials you'd want. Keegan and management hardly go hand-in-hand

I thought that he wouldn't necessarily be the role model we're looking for, though the players might actually lighten up a bit!
I believe that his Greek language skills are far from fluent either. Speaking English is a fundamental part of the job, so Rehhagel is a non-starter. His style of play is the same, if not worse than Kerr's too, as was shown when Greece got found out in the WC qualifiers.
How about Luca Vialli with Dennis Wise as assistant
The thing is do we want results or entertainment? Its always asking a lot to get the two in tandom and if Rehaggel can do what he did with Greece there's no reason why he couldn't instill a similar belief and organisation into a new crop of Irish players. You have to wonder was his style of play made to fit the players he had at his disposal, or, is that the way all his teams have played? I don't know. Its all a bit hypothetical at the moment to be arguing the finer points of a German manger of the Greek national side with no English as Irelands next manager

I have to agree with JoeSemi on this one. Rehhagel may play football to suit the players at his disposal. As for him playing the same if not worse football than Kerr, that's not true. Rehhagel's Greek team played with a lot of passion. They worked extremely hard and pressed the opposition, giving them little or no time to settle on the ball. If only Kerr could have instilled similar ideas into his Irish team we'd be laughing.

I dread to think who will get the job. Anyone good that might have a bit of passion for the job like Martin O'Neill will probably not want it.
There are no real outstanding managerial candidates amongst ex irish players, Aldridge possibly has the best credentials and that is not saying much.
The likes of Paul Jewell, Peter Taylor, Steve Bruce, Ian Dowie etc might be decent but will any of them actually do any better than Kerr? In the absence of a ready made replacement, I think it is hard to justify not giving Kerr another chance. He probably didnt do enough to warrant a new contract but he only got 1 full campaign as manager. One thing you can be sure of is that we wont find anyone with the same commitment and devotion to Irish football that he had.
Especially if we get some clown like Kenny Dalglish to take over. He would only be in it for the golf courses and the retirement fund.
Philippe Troussier is another Berti Vogts in waiting.
I have heard other disturbing names emerge like Robson, Venables and George Graham. Sure why dont we go all out and get Big Ron, or Barry Fry, Graham Taylor or even Howard Wilkinson.

I would LOVE to see Sir Clive Woodward get the job, even if only for a few days, just think of the amount of sh!t it would stir up! I'm sure it would be easy enough to get the FAI on board, they could make a killing at the bookies by getting him at huge odds. Maybe even leave him in for the first friendly, just for the craic, and then say that negative reaction has unfortunately meant that Sir Clive couldn't continue as manager. Use their winnings to pay Gus Hiddink's/Scolari's/Arsene Wenger's salary and put a deposit down on the new stadium. Everyone's a winner!

I would love to see Martin O'Neill take the job dont think he will but maybe its not all Brian Kerr's fault i dont think much of Chris Hughton either.

"Since there is no rush to appoint a new Ireland manager, the position will appeal to him greatly.
"But he will delay making any decision until Geraldine pulls through. This should be known in the next few months. Martin won't entertain the situation until them.
"Personally, I can see no reason why he won't take the job."
