Philippe Troussier was 25/1 but now has no odds. He'll go down to about 5/1 now.
Would Troussier be any good? A bit of a loose cannon by all accounts but Japan played really good football under him.
Who managed japan in 1998? Their results were poor but their style of play was very pleasing on the eye.
I reckon they'll bide their time and see who's available in due course. If they have their wits about them they'll appoint a bulge bracket headhunting firm who can execute a fully professional recruitment mandate away from the attention of the press.
Salary shouldn't be an obstacle. The package should be a base salary plus performance related bonuses. Bonus to be based on points achieved against teams from Pots 1 to 3, and outright qualification. If these guys want to be well paid let them earn it.
I'm worried.......... MON is the man but he won't come on board a sinking ship when the Man Utd post is on the horizon.

Listening to Brady & Giles on dunphy's show this morning. Anyone hear it?
It was the usual names being thrown about, Allardyce, Troussier etc. but they also discussed the possibility of Roy taking the job. Dunphy said he'd be mad to but Brady & Giles said he could do well......you can't substitute UEFA badges for experience and Keano has plenty of that, he's learnt his football from two greats of the English game (Clough & Ferguson). He knows the game and what's is needed on the pitch, sure he does have the manager's job when he on the pitch.
I know he has no Management experience but he would't be the first to get an Intl. job eg Hughes for Wales and Beckenbauer for Germany.
What do you think?

And who would look after the friendlies which he doesn't do ? A different management team for them? I'd prefer someone committed to the concept of international football rather than someone who often put his club first even ahead of a play off game in Iran.

I have mixed views on him in general but I was perfectly happy to put aside my personal opinion of him when he played for us so I'd have no problem with him managing us either. It'd be a gamble but I think he could do it. He and Dinny Irwin!

I saw Otto Rehaggel listed at 25/1 this morning. Not somebody that had immediately sprung to anybodys mind but he must be getting touted in some circles to be suddenly mentioned. Worth a flutter and wouldn't be a bad candidate. Has proven credentials and is current European champion with a bunch of previously unheralded footballers. Having gone out of the WC he may have reached his peak with Greece and could now look for greener pastures. Although, coming from the Med to scouring the Championship on a p!ssy evening in february may not appeal!

The first thing he did when he got to Celtic was change his title from "coach" to "manager". He doesn't seem to talk to his players. He doesn't do training. He doesn't give a team-talk before matches. He is not renowned for playing good football and is not the type of manager that would give a midfielder a free role.
He has a magnificant record but I probably wouldn't want him as Ireland boss.
No chance whatsoever, as Rehhagel doesn't speak English.
Not to mention Klinsmann who has never managed before but Germany gave him a big job for next year.

at the end of the day.
He is 3-1 favourite at Paddy Power and we would be lucky to get him.
