    Brian Kerr should stay.

Who do you think we are, Brazil? Do you not see what players we have available? There is no better man to bring in new young players than Brian Kerr, and the focus should be on building a team for World Cup 2010. There is no-one better than Brian Kerr who would take the job.

he's been given ample time to try something different, put his stamp on the set up and we've continued to deteriorate.

ok, so we don't have as good as squad as in past campaigns but i don't think he's been able to even get the best out of what we have on a consistent basis.

mick never even finished below second place ....

No I obviously don't know anything about football. I guess I should take a leaf out of the foot.ie book and campaign to get rid of our next Under 21 manager because he doesn't pick a squad of Eircom league players, preferably from Cork, and I should campaign to get Kerr out because he didn't get a crap team into the World Cup on his first attempt.

We should be coasting through with class players like Carr, Dunne, Harte, Cunningham, Morrison, Reid, Kilbane, Holland and Kavanagh. Man, they should be winning the world cup let alone qualifying for it. Kerr out!

Let's get the man who ****ed up brighton in, or the man who bankrupted Leeds!

ThatGuy...come on in fairness..while you make the point that some of our players are not great and i agree with you there do you not see that whatever players we have they still have to be organised and set up right to play football..i have never seen two such poor performances together from an Irish side..well not since the mid-eighties..there is no motivation or organisation there right now..if there was even those two i think Kerr would at least get some support besides yourself..people who earlier defended are now being honest and can see after tonight he is not up do dealing with the pressure of managing the Irish senior squad..

RedX, I expect you will get your wish very soon as I doubt Kerr will still be in charge when the Euro 2008 draw is made. My opinion is clear, as is yours, there is no point in a debate which will be re-hashing the same points.

I think Kerr has done a decent (not great) job with the resources available to him and should be given another shot.

You think that he is not up to the job. Fair enough, I don't agree but I think that the decision makers probably do agree with it.

BTW, the Cyprus performance was terrible, but we still won, but have you seriously never seen Ireland play worse than they did tonight?

    Yes i did...last Saturday night..

Seriusly i respect your opinion and fair dues because not many people are backing him right now..i have said in a different thread already that i thought there was some passion there tonight and they put Switzerland under pressure during the game without ever creating to much..but it was the least amount of passing football i have seen from us in years...it was a bad performance against an average side...i mean whatever channel you listened to all the panelists were saying the same..Moran,Stapleton,Houghton,Dunphy,Giles...it was very very poor all round really..we played the same way for 90 minutes..lob the ball into the last third and hope for a knockdown to Keane/Elliot from Morrison...

If that is the case surely he will be heading for the door. I have read a few interviews mainly from the players who Kerr brought through the ranks, Richard Dunne being the most recent stating that he wanted him to stay on. Did they mention who they would like to be manager? Who would you want to charge for the Euro qualifiers soccerc?

If a mod is going to set up a poll, can they also modify the title. That past tense is a bit misleading. It's like it was all done and dusted while I slept.

For me *if* Brian's contract isn't renewed (he himself was speaking past tense lastnight, as if he's resigned to it), then I can see O'Neill there.

Martin O Neil, pay him more than Sven. I don't care but get him in. Sorry Kerr 2 failed qualification campaigns costs you your job.

The way I'd see it is that Brian Kerr's contract ran out as soon as the final whistle blew last night and we were knocked out.
It's up to the FAI to offer him a new one, but I would be surprised if that happens now.

As for who might be appointed. I would have no issue with an ex-international being appointed, but another English manager, no thanks. Why pick an English one? Pick a continental if we are unable to choose an Irish manager.

Of the Irish candidates the usual will trot out, Reid and Quinn; Houghton I'm sure will throw his hat into the ring; Aldridge; O'Leary; perhaps Moran will try again.

Sorry to the eL heads but the chances of another manager without experience at the top level of pro football being picked in the next 10 years is slim to none. So that would rule out Richardson.

Just something that I thought of yesterday....in Don Givens interview on another thread someone asked would he leave the U-21 job, his response was a fairly inconspicuous one, something along the lines of " I love my job, blah blah, you never know what might come around the corner, what opportunaity may arise.." . Perhaps Givens has been sounded out as "home" coach to a foreign manager who would have little info on Irish football?
Here they come! It’s the charge of the “Thanks” Brigade!

Martin O' Neill would be the best option at this moment in time IMO.

The only man for the job is Martin O'Neill.
He is the one man who can get the most out of limited players through organisation and motivation.

I have absolutely no confidence in John Delaney and the FAI to do the right thing.

Here's how Paddy Power see's it:

    D O'Leary 5 - 2
    M O'Neill 11 - 2
    Roy Keane 11 - 1
    J Aldridge 12 - 1
    J Kinnear 14 - 1
    G Graham 18 - 1
    T Venables 20 - 1
    G Burley 20 - 1
    K Keegan 22 - 1
    P Reid 22 - 1
    R Houghton 25 - 1
    G Strachan 25 - 1
    K Dalglish 25 - 1
    L Brady 33 - 1
    Niall Quinn 33 - 1
    K Moran 50 - 1
    A Ferguson 50 - 1
    J Giles 100 - 1
    SG Eriksson 100 - 1
    J Charlton 100 - 1
    E Dunphy 250 - 1

I'd like George Burley to come in - great manager. Gets the most out of not so good players and thats what we need.

JoeSemi isn;t around today so I'll post his choice for him:

Guus Hiddink (assuming Australia fail to make the finals)

Can't see Martin O'Neill wanting it to be honest but I'd love to see him take over. Or Mick McCarthy.

David O’Leary was at the game last night. Don't think he would get the respect of the players. O'Neill would be a fantastic choice. He is used to working wonders with limited resources … so the Irish job is made for him.
