The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Sure, half a dozen people in the street (how many did they interview?) makes for a good statistical sample leading to a nice generalisation. Down with America - dey iz two dumm 2 no de gografy.

Try this: find an unlabled map of Africa on the net, print it out, and do a quick survey of the office, on the street, whatever. How many people can find Rwanda? Come on - how much money have the people of Ireland given to Rwanda? Surely they know where it is?

Or how about ask them to find reasonably large countries like Iran, North Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan; you know, countries that are in the news at the moment (rather than in the mid-90s), some of which your their country may or may not be fighting wars in. I dare say anyone in Ireland would not confuse a blank map of Australia / USA / Canada with Iran or North Korea, even if it was intentionally misprinted.

I made references to Mexican and Canadian politics to a group of college students in a good liberal-arts college in New York, and none of them had a clue about either of those countries. These were well-educated undergraduates (taking politics classes) at a good university and they had extremely limited knowledge of their two nearest neighbours (aside from the availability of soft drugs and alcohol in these countries)!

I don't think it's for real. How come whatever country they pick no matter how odd is in the place of Australia? The country name over Australia seems to change everytime and always matches their choice.

Poor Student as far as I can see, they are giving different people different maps....

Doesn't excuse one guy wanting to invade China and Indonesia..........and then logically following on, Brazil and Canada......

Obviously. But why is it they always want to conveniently invade the country that's name is on Australia no matter what different map?

Maybe they thought islands were easy targets, i dunno ..... did you notice them just rattling out any old name ever before they had a pin in their hand too ?? Can you answer that one for us ??

Well my suggestion is that it is fake. The person says France and low and behold his map says France. The person says N. Korea and low and behold his map says N. Korea etc. Just something I observed that seemed odd. Maybe he comes later with the map, but it seems convenient he has so many maps prepared, one even with France.

I have been asked a number of times since I moved to Dublin "where do I change my sterling" by Dubs!

I was told by somone else (a Dublin GAA fan himself) that a few years back Dublin played GAA in Clones and some of the fans were wondering would they need sterling (needless to say he was embarrased)

I once knew a girl in Derry who though Brussels was somewhere in the south of England! Her explanation was that it always seemed to be mentioned on the (BBC) news!

Having lived and worked in 2 very different parts of America (New York and Florida) - one time of which I was selling educational products - I can categorically confirm that the Americans are uneducated generally, nay stoopid, and particularly so when it comes to geography.

My favourite quote - was speaking to a family, and one of the kids (about 12 years old) asked me where I was from. I said "Ireland" to which she replied "Hey - that's where Aunty so and so is from" ! To which the 'mom' corrected her "No stupid - that's Rhode Island....." . For everything else in life there's Mastercard....
