My favourite quote - was speaking to a family, and one of the kids (about 12 years old) asked me where I was from. I said "Ireland" to which she replied "Hey - that's where Aunty so and so is from" ! To which the 'mom' corrected her "No stupid - that's Rhode Island....." . I agree with you to some extent, when they learn history and geography at school, they mainly stick with the American version i.e. nothing exists outside of the US. To say they are stupid is a bit of a stretch. It also depends on who you talk to as with anywhere.
"Jacques Santini...will be greeted in every dugout of the country by "one-nil, one-nil" - Clive Tyldsley, 89th minute of France-England June 13, 2004.
"Ooooohhhh Nooooooo" Bobby Robson 91st minute.

Similar story ... a mate of mine was in New York, queing outside a club, and got talking to the people next to him, "where are you from", "Ireland", "what state is that in", "No no, IRELAND, y'know ... next to England", "Ahh, you're from near New England", "No, the England in Europe", "Ohh, can you like .. drive there ??" ...... Just ended up explain that there were millions and million of gallons of water in between here and there !!
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
