Yes, Peter Thompson is great. I think he will be getting the golden boot this year. It is a real pity he was not able to train, but I think he will get a second chance.
because its smacks of tokenism and the clubs here would give out about losing some of their best players for training sessionsOriginally Posted by superfrank

Cos in fairness, The Republic of Ireland are a much better team than the North so it's harder to get into the squadOriginally Posted by superfrank

Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.
Kevin Doyle had only left Ireland two months before his first senior call-up!

Surely Pat McCourt wouldnt be too far away from the NI squad if IL players are being asked to train?
As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.
pat mccourt and liam coyle were given 1 cap to stop them declaring for the free state if some of the more cynical derry fans are to be believedOriginally Posted by Troy.McClure
Well to be fair to the cynical Derry Fans and indeed to be fair to the IFA, there are a lot of the Nationalist population with no allegiance to the 6 county statelet in sport or anywhere else. There have been a number of sports people from the Wee North who have declared for the Republic at underage level. In one particular instance, Women's soccer, exploiting a particular problem the IFA had with funding. The IFA decided, during the mid-late 1990's, not to have an Under 16 Women's team for financial reasons. Within weeks two players from the area had declared for the Republic and actually played for The Republic Under 16 team. Now they have become overage for those teams they have faded from the International scene. Although one senior Republic of Ireland international Women's team player is from the North, having declared for us as an adult.Originally Posted by Roverstillidie
And here's a word of warning to all of us who love the game down here, the IFA had financial problems largely because they failed to qualify for the 1988,1992 1996 and 2000 European Championships and the 1990, 1994 ,1998 and 2002 World Cups.

Anybody born on this island who can score goals regularly is a rareity, especially at international level.Originally Posted by Ifcp1
