He was an amazing footballer. The most skillfull this Island has ever produced and the most skillfull ever to play in the english league in my opinion.

    You'll Never Walk Alone Georgie!

RIP. Great player of which they are few and far between. Still think Maradona was the greatest though. A sad end to a sad life his genius will live on.

This is a day of national sadness up here in Northern Ireland. Very unlikely we'll ever have one as good as him again.

I hope tomorrow during the Irish League games that everyone will respect a minute of silence and that all players of every team will have a black armtape on. That's the least they can do.

Also, I hope that everyone will not remember the alcohol problems etc, but remember the great player he was.

RIP and the best of strength to the relatives and close friends.

Considering he pretty much packed in his career at 26 he must have been one hell of a player to earn the praise he does today.

    Unhappy Rest in Peace George

Ah Jaysus, another from my generation has left us.

    Very down today.

That same horrible feeling when Rory Gallagher, Phil Lynott, Bobby Moore and John Lennon left this mortal coil.

May he rest in peace, no pain or sadness for him anymore.

Finding it harder and harder to relate to sport today, That'll probably pass but right now I'm having a little trip through the sixties and seventies and there are fine memories from then. George lit those footballing times up.

You older folks will know what I mean.

RIP George Best and thank you.

Great, great player. A true genius. Very sad day for football fans. Will always remember his goal against Sheffield United. The incredible balance. For me the best player I have ever seen. RIP George.

    Tribute

Big Debate on BBC 5 Live about a tribute to George, top of the list a charity match at Old Trafford between an All-Ireland Selection and Manchester United, with proceeds to Childrens Charities here and in the UK.

Could possibly be the ultimate tribute to a man who was the most talented sportsman Ireland has ever produced

George Best made the beautiful game look more simple and beautiful than any other. You'll be sorely missed.
