    Medal collectors

Ive asked a few people here, but anyone know any football medal collector that could be interet in the likes of these link if not sold. A lot of old medals especially from regional/business/local leagues get scrapped for silver and I always think its a shame. So if anyone does know anyone that might have an interest pass this on. If they were in Dundalk it'd be straight to Robbie Rafferty as the main man for history of local leagues in the North East.

Looks like someone's snapped them up now.

What were the items, and what was the asking price?

Business league (I think but 40s and 50s business teams may have been in regular leagues back then) junior and district league medals from Dublin area, mid 40s to mid 50s, stamped and engraved. Couple of hundred Euro for the lot which would have been worth the silver content alone for the medals. Such is the value of silver now the history is second to the scrap value and I think its sad if such items are bought and lost to the game. These were well kept so important to someone at one time.

As an aside on this sort of thing, I know that a number of 1942 FAI Cup winning medals maybe more, at least 1 1952 according to Joe Martin, runner up stuff also, and a bunch of other priceless sporting momentos were given to the church for smelting down and making a crown for the 1954 Marion Year and it sits in a safe in Armagh, never even seen a pic of it for the 3 or 4 times that its ever been in the town from which it was forged by the locals precious belongings (engagement/wedding rings, silver dinner sets etc), losing those medals in this way was criminal hence my post about the sale above. I dont know if people collect sporting medals as they would match programs but itd be an interesting hobby if someone did.

Ive my grandfathers 1923 Dundalk and District Summer League and Cup medals and if they were pinched I would spend any money tracking them down and culprits would pay back in flesh!!
