    Thumbs up Under 21 success

Our under 21s qualified for the quarter finals with a 2 1 win away to Kerry in Mounthawk park on Sunday. A first half goal from Shane Guiren and one from Chris Jones early the the second half was just about enough as the blues came under heavy pressure late in the second half. Former blues Dave Conway and James Sugrue were in fine form for the Kerry team who should...NEVER BE ALLOWED INTO THE EL. They are by far the dirtiest team i have ever seen and had not Kerryman Stephen O'Mahoneys uncle not been reffing, i should think that upto three Kerry players were lucky to see half time without been shown the red card. Great set up for a junior side but never for an EL team. Well done to the blues for doing so well in their first year in this hostile competition.

Well done to the under-21s. Just goes to show how important consistancy is in football. Their recent run of results has been fantastic. Would have liked to see Kerry go through aswell, but I suppose you can't have everything. Lets hope Limerick can keep the wins coming.

GAEL:I have seen far dirtier games myself.Lims were well able to look after themselves and gave a bit as well.

The Pitch had an awful lot to do with it I felt. Grass was way too long but Lims played well and deserved to hold out. Thought that when Kerry put Sugrue into the middle thay were a different team. He is a fine player and is of LOI standard no doubt.

BTW Nice work in antagonising the home support and team for the second half by some very questionable (being diplomatic here) chanting by some of the Lims support. Was not needed at a game at this level.

Nempton might have some paint and board left over to make a second banner.

    John
And ill be ultra diplomatic in my responce. First up i dont think any chant by us limerick fans was in any way an attemt to antagonise the Kerry support or the people of kerry it was in RESPONCE to the kerry teams tactics after they scored a questionable goal (from a kerry point in never crossed the line) The kerry players threw punches and kicks at the limerick players on the way back to the half way line. This was not the first time in the game* as i think you'll agree, but the chant that we gave back was directed twords their actions. After the game limerick fans (5 adults 4 kids) waited to applaud their team off and in a gesture of sporting goodwill we applauded the Kerry team too. Most of the Kerry team thanked us but two went out of their way (both booked for decent on the field earlier) and barated us with some foul abuse. The left back went on about us "growing up and to act like adults as he gestured to us with his finger while funniest of all was the keeper Hennessy (ex cobh and Waterford) who told us to go f*@k ourselves and asked who we had played for? Dave Conway (Kerry ex Limerick) came over and appoligized and told us they were just down after the game which we could totally understand. But we made the point of this to the Kerry Manager who took it in good form and that was that...or so we thought! Leaving Tralee later who got out of a car next to us but Hennessy. He was alongside me so i said hows it going, best of luck! He came over and wait for this..."just shows how sad ye f*@ks are! comming all the way down to support a f*@king under 21 team ha ha!

Now John im all for games like this cos honestly the passion shown by both sides was commendable and i think BOTH sets of fans responded to the intensity of the game and tensions rose on BOTH sides of the fanszone. The Kerry support didnt chant anything in our direction at all of course And if they did it was directed very much at Limerick supporters! Did you hear it?

    * But lets look at the reason for the tension rising amoung the supporters. In the first 20/25 mins it was obvious that Shane Guiren was a target for the center half (no 6) who Punched, elbowed and headbutted him from behind while he also hacked down Chris Jones. Frees were given but no cards which the limerick supporters found incredable. Other hackings were noticable by the ref as he continued to give frees but no cards. His first card was for decent to Hennessy in the Kerry goal. He booked another Kerry player later in the half for an elbow.

Second half and obviously someone had a chat with him cos he started to book players at will. Kupec for (time wasting) he was handing the ball to his full back! Ger Bourke for ??? who knows, Gary Prout for ??? cos the linesman called that one! and i think Dannagher for a hack! The point is the limerick players were being booked. The Kerry players were only being booked as an afterthought (i gotta even up things etc)
In the first 20 mins or so Kerry could or should i say should have recieved three straight reds and several yellows.

With the ref (Kerry) being so lenient with the home team, optimisim by the home team and support rose as did the frustration amoung the Limerick support that he wasnt doing his job. Id agree with you about the pitch, the worst ive ever seen. But my abiding memory is of a neck-less center half running down a hill lunging with both feet up at Jones/Boyle/Kupec/Corbett/Burke and hammering them individually into the stand. Frees...but No bookings!

But the game is over now and lets put it behind us. Conway and Sugrue would be valuable additions to our squad/team. Trip to kerry is cool only 1 hour 10

This from the man who feels that there was nothing wrong with the chanting at Jamie Nolan? John D I'm surprised at you!

And I'd agree with gael, aside from Sugrue and the Conway brothers the Kerry team seemed to have set out to be choppers. A stronger ref would have made all the difference but for the first half the players got away with murder. The amount of elbows and punches that went unpunished was baffling.

And as far as antagonisation went I think if you take off those green and yellow tinted glasses you'll remember that their left-full initiated the whole thing. There was less said and done than at most games at any level. And I haven't bothered passing comment on the 'stab city' jibes that preceded the awful, awful, 'Limerick 2 - Savages 1' chant that seems to have left Tralee in tears. I haven't dwelled on the 'are sh1t' teenaged chorus that followed our 'Limerick' chant. The Kerry crowd were well able to dish it out. If they can't take it and throw a hissy fit afterwards...

There were a couple of very bad losers on the Kerry side and even allowing for the youth of those involved... it smacked of immaturity. I'd always had a lot of time for Kerry League and had actually hoped that they'd sneak through with us. I was even going to buy one of their jersies. Now... truth be told, I hope Cork sneak a 1-0 over Kilkenny and that's with the greatest of respect to Dave Conway and their manager who were at least reasonable afterwards.

Anyway John, I hope we can still be friends!

Aaaagh, I'm gonna have to clear this up too. Nempton is as horrified as Jebus at the thought of a banner which was the idea of Lim Til I Die and my good self. As we have the material we figure that we'll go ahead and make one but we're not 100% sure what we're gonna write (semi-literacy is a drawback at times like this! )

Make that Conways......Stephen Conway looked very comfortable on the ball also could be one for the future. On the Lims side I was very impressed with Boyle, Prout, Hunt, Bourke and Colbert. This was the 1st time I'd seen them in action and ok it was an U21's match but the future looks bright if we can keep all these guys together.

No argument from me there. I think Shane Guerin and Chris Jones make an excellent front two as well and when you add Dave Ryan to the mix in that part of the field you can understand why the goals have come so readily for us.

For me, on Sunday, our best players were Cian Hunt, Ger Bourke, John Boyle and the two up front.
