Croatia: second in group 8 - lost to Kazakhstan, beat Albania and the Netherlands.(came from two down with half an hour to go to win 3-2 with a last minute penalty - a draw would have put the Dutch through)
Poland: second in group 13(a three team group) - lost to Germany, beat Luxembourg 1-0

First game is on Wednesday. After finishing top of their group in the first round, the aim has to be, at a minimum, to finish second and qualify for the U27 World Cup at the end of the year.

Good result for the goal difference in terms of the second place table for World Cup qualification if it comes to it. Even if they lose to Croatia, a win over Slovakia should be enough to qualify in the end.

Results to date suggest we should be able to beat Slovakia. Any kind of win might qualify us for the World Cup, but there's a scenario where we might need to win by a few goals.

If things stay as they are, Poland, Croatia, and ourselves are all on six points after beating Slovakia, and one of the other three sides
The games against Slovakia are discarded, leaving the remaining three sides on three points
We're +3 goals from beating Poland, and then -2 after losing to Croatia, so +1 overall
Poland are -3 after losing to us and +1 from beating Croatia, so -2 overall
Croatia are +2 after beating us, and -1 from losing to Poland, so +1 overall
I think that would put us through after scoring three goals in the two games? Poland have one and Croatia have two?
More importantly its a +7 even if we finish second should get them through to World Cup.

Off to the World Cup again at Under 17 level. Well done to them, just have to hope it goes ahead now. It could maybe be moved from Qatar if it came to it.
