Wexford will be disappointed that they didn’t manage a share of the points in Ferrycarrig this evening, as with the exception of a ropey start by the home side it was a very finely balanced game. Wexford had an unfamiliar look as, with James Crawford suspended, Dean Larkin injured and Mikie Rowe withdrawing just before the game started, Stephen Elliott was forced to start new signing Evan Osam at left-full, Kaylem “I’ll Play Anywhere” Harnett at right-full and young Ryan Butler filling in alongside Robbie McCourt in the middle of the back four. Darragh Levingston also started up front for Wexford in place of Rowe. Not surprisingly, Wexford looked tentative at the start and, on three minutes, the Wexford defence allowed an unthreatening ball by Bray to bounce, where Cian Curtis got the chance to take it under control and hit a smart shot past Paul Martin in the Wexford goal for 1-0 to Bray. A minute later, Martin had to produce a good save to prevent Curtis from notching a second for Bray. Wexford began to settle down as the first half progressed, and Wexford’s Ben McCormack had a good chance on ten minutes when set up following a Bray error at the back, but could only hit the crossbar. On 38 minutes, a low cross from Wexford’s right flashed across the Bray goal but nobody from the home side could get a touch on it. Then, Dobbsy was taken down from behind when in the act of shooting with only Corcoran to beat and was awarded a peno. However, Dobbsy’s low effort from the spot was pushed away by a strong hand from Corcoran to leave Bray in front by one goal to nil at halftime.
Second half continued with both sides matching each other. While the wings for Wexford were productive with Oluwabiyi and Wasilewski doing well at times, the home side couldn’t really dominate the middle of the Bray back four, where Cantwell and Warren reigned supreme. Best chance for Wexford in the second half fell again to Dobbsy when he was set up by Wexford substitute, Kyal Byrne, but again Corcoran spread himself effectively to deny Dobbsy from securing an equaliser. Other Wexford subs were Calum Flynn and Conor Levingston. Aji Oluwabiyi was particularly to the fore in the final quarter of the game, and had a free which whistled just past the Bray post late on as Bray held out for the win. 1-0 to Bray at fulltime. Crowd was believed to be 562.
