In fairness I don't think Dundalk were really favorites(bookies made them favs because of their history) to get auto promotion this year.
Killer has blended a nice mix of experienced guys and hungry young fellas and now they're 6 points clear in the division with 10 games left.

If Dundalk DO go up they'll need to invest heavily in the team to avoid auto relegation, no doubt.

and this is probably as easy a division as they'll ever get because next season..... Cork, Galway, Sligo or whoever drop down &suddenly the whole dynamic of this league changes.

Dundalk really need to go up as champions this season.

Thats true in a scenerio where Bray go up (or Cobh) next year Cork even an underperforming Cork will be favourites for the league.
When you look at what Doherty has done at Drogs i think if Dundalk go up that while they will be favourites to go down (just like Drogs were this year) a hardworking team well coached doesnt have to be cannon fodder.
Ollie worked the miracle often enough at Harps.
