    Shams receive supporters’ warning

eircom League Premier Division club Shamrock Rovers have been handed a €1000 fine and warned as to the future conduct of their supporters – with the dreaded possibility of a further points deduction hanging over the club.

Shams were deducted eight points for licensing irregularities earlier in the season.

That penalty has kept them locked in the relegation battle – although they did their chances of survival a power of good with a 4-2 win over Longford Town on Friday night.

And after unrest involving Hoops supporters at the Dublin derby against Shelbourne recently, the club has been warned that their fans could cost them another damaging points penalty.

An eircom League spokesperson said: “Unless there is a marked improvement in the behaviour of the club’s supporters, the disciplinary commission will consider imposing a points deduction and/or ordering home matches to be played behind closed doors."

Life without Rovers, it makes no sense...it's a heartache...nothing but a fools game. S.R.F.C.

    On a similar topic

"Shelbourne were fined €300 as a result of the improper conduct of a supporter v Shamrock Rovers (09.09.05)."

I don't know what the incident was but surley if only one supporter was involved action should be taken against the individual, not the club.

When at games supporters are representing their club. Which, some times, is unfortunate.

Apparently the incident in question was the returning of a bottle to some Rovers fans who had kindly flund it at him. Or something. Batman!

But what does this fine achieve? The supporter is still attending Shels games. This strikes me as lazy enforcement. Taking action against the individual would be much more effective but it would require an amount of investigation and some level of proof. Instead a token fine is handed out so as the authorities are seen to be doing something.

Yeah ... we can put it on sticky
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.
