Wexford paid the price for an uncharacteristically flat performance in Ferrycarrig this evening and ended up with nothing despite having a player advantage for the final half-hour. Wexford started with Paul, James, Josh, Dean, Mikie, Darragh, Dobbsy, Kaylem, Zayd, Ryan K and Ryan B. Wexford had one of their better spells at the start of the game as Dobbsy was set up for a shooting chance but shot over the UCD bar and, on ten minutes, Wexford’s Ryan Kelly put in a nice cross but Mikie Rowe was adjudged to have fouled a UCD defender while trying to apply the finishing touch. After that, however, Wexford seemed to lose their way and it was UCD who looked the more threatening as the half progressed. As the half-hour approached, UCD should have scored when a forward was put through on the Wexford goal but the shot was weakly drilled straight at Paul Martin in the Wexford goal. With a couple of minutes to go in the half, UCD’s Jake Doyle had a free header at the far post but wasn’t able to keep it on target. Paul Martin then had to grab a low shot as the half ended and Wexford needed a stern talk from the manager at halftime. 0-0 at the break.
