    Under 17s

Beat Ukraine 2-1. Play Italy today to qualify for UEFA Finals proper. 1.30 KO I read.

    Fingers crossed.

    Finished 2-2.
Think they need still need a win from their final game to be certain, but a draw may be enough
    More here

you can see the table here - http://www.uefa.com/competitions/Und...roup=2402.html - today's results haven't been added in, but Ireland will still top the group going into the final game against Latvia.

    Thanks lads.

Today's Indo said a win would get us into the "elite stages". If only they did the same due diligence about what they write as you guys do. Maybe they have a much different opinion as to what constitutes "elite".

I was just reading about this match in the Irish Times. Good result today. A draw against Latvia guarantees us qualification to the Elite round. And Btw, the Irish Times are comparing Dixon to Wayne Rooney. His father is English and wants him to play for England.

The second stage is called the Elite Stage, see here - http://www.uefa.com/competitions/und...lts/index.html - on the left, although there's no dates given for it.

The top 2 qualify so all we need is a draw and we're through to the next qualifying round

Aye, still could change alliance though so I'm a bit worried after reading this:

A stocky, bustling forward with great touch and footballing intelligience, London-born Dixon has been compared to Wayne Rooney. His English father is eager for his son to play for England and they are due to select him for an under-16 tournament next month, even though he has already played against them for Ireland. He qualifies for Ireland through his mother, who is from Bailieborough, Co.Cavan.

It goes on to say that Dixon was restricted to 90 minutes of football in the 4 Nordic cup matches because Spurs only allowed that. He came off the bench in each game, scored 3 goals and tormented England.

Ireland qualifying for the next stage in tournaments. just up to the seniors to follow suit!
    REP OF IRELAND U-17 2 LATVIA 0
Donal McDermott and Terry Dixon scored
the goals as Sean McCaffrey's U-17s
beat Latvia in Kiev this afternoon to
make it through to the 'elite'
    qualifying stage of the UEFA
    Championships.

With Italy and Ukraine drawing 2-2, it
means Ireland top the group with Italy
    going through as runners-up.

Ireland, needing only a draw to
qualify, never looked back once left
winger McDermott gave them a 39th
    minute lead.

Spurs striker Dixon added the second on
    64 minutes.

    REP OF IRELAND U-19 2 NORWAY 1
Ireland' U-19s ladies beat Norway in
Tallinn to become the first team to
qualify for the next stage of the
    2005/2006 UEFA Championships.

Ireland got off to a flying start with
a goal in the 3rd minute courtesy of a
superb finish by captain Sarah Lawlor,
after she was put through by Susan
    Donovan.

The Irish increased their lead through
Susan Donovan in the 29th minute who
superbly chipped the keeper from an
    acute angle.

Norway pulled a goal back in the 46th
    minute through Thornes.

So Terry Dixon is another exciting prospect to add to the list. He's only 15.

Will his dad convince him to play for England though?
I fear the longer it takes us to qualify for a major championship the more likely it is we will lose players in his situation to England or even Scotland
