I hope Shels go on and win the CL PO or else they will really regret tonight. Probably be against Linfield but they were incredibly wasteful last week in the 1st leg.

That last goal....Shels nicely composed, a little tight but moving it out of trouble until a fearful punt of possession away not even out of the half and then acres of space to run in to before a nothing pass, probably a lucky bounce and slid past the keeper. Very LoI and disappointing in the end, provided hope and then gone in a flash. If it had finished 0-2 you'd have taken it on the chin considering the goals. It was a soft penalty but I do think there was a jersey pull back so still a penalty. Should we be disappointed for being so close against Croat champions? Shels are still a bit green in Europe, need to develop their dark arts more though Rijeka werent too cynical until cramp kicked in.... To miss out on groups would still be a huge missed opportunity considering Shels ability.

I think you're vastly underestimating how much some of that Shels squad earn. The likes of Mipo and Wood aren't playing over here for less than four figures.

Yeah but I doubt they'd be on 1/4 of a mil a year. Only Dundalk would have paid that sort of money.......

Rovers performance in that tie is never going to get better regardless!

€50k pa is the average player wage in Iceland. €42k in Ireland, I'd say that average is heavily weighted toward Derry and Rovers albeit everyone has the 4th highest wages.

There are at least three players at shels on three grand a week, they out bid rovers for one player.
    Their wage bill is massive.

Didn't they lose two mill or something last year?

You don't do that paying guys €500 a week

I was generalizing. Mipo and Wood are the only two players that come close to deserving 3 grand a week. Thats insane money for an LOI player.

Exactly. That guy that scored the 30 yarder...he's earning that, easily. At least. Levels.

Fair pint I suppose. But IF Mipo and Wood are both getting 120-150K a year, that means that several Shels players must be getting far smaller annual salaries.

THAT'S what I was getting at with my 500 quid a week comment (even though that would break down to 800, not 500 p/w). Thanks.

The average wage for a LOI PD played is now 1k a week as per the PFAI

I suppose if you take the 500 out of your original post then it's spot on

Rijeka are a bigger club than Shels. They won the league and Cup ahead of Dinamo Zagreb. And Shels beat them out there and we're a whisker away from extra time

And yes, Zagreb may have dropped the ball domestically because of Europe, allowing a weaker champion, but then that's how Shels won the league too

Unfortunately as things stand there are both technical ability AND financial ability glass ceilings for LOI clubs in Europe, notwithstanding the fact that there are moments or ties here and there which occasionally show that our teams can hold their own (like Shels winning away in Rijeka, Rovers beating Molde, Pats giving Istanbul a fright). Its too simple to say Rijeka have ten times the resources of Shels and thats the only reason they won, but it goes a long way.

JAck Byrne not in squad for Balkani match due to a "disagreement" with the manager according to the Journal amongst others.
Pity as JAck is a guy who can pick a pass if a team are defending a lead

I've always found it amusing for over two decades now the amount of Bohs fans who have insider access to Shels' payroll
The Leinster Senior League needs a strong Bohemians

Hence the 4th highest wages and throwig the kitchen sink at players became the gold standard cause people dont generally know specifics, a total wage bill allows a good guess but other than that its all an in the know guess. Id to sign players cheques many many years ago and I reckon even today the money players were on would be a surprise both high and low and that was a trophy winning side.
