    Footballs Theft

This is a bizarre story. I can’t fathom the mentality of someone robbing from their club. Is this a problem for other clubs.

Surely this is mainly kids though. In saying that it can't be too hard for stewards at the exit noticing someone is leaving with a football

Yeah I’ve had some feedback on Twitter and consensus seems to be that it’s kids. I suppose most stewards aren’t paid enough and avoid confrontation. It’s not an insignificant amount of money that is being lost.

Even still, would fans not self-police and tell them to give the balls back?
Maybe it's not unique to Cork, but it's feels like a strange phenomenon.
I've never witnessed it at any football match. I've done stewarding with Derry GAA at Celtic Park too, and even with the pitch invasions after most games, I don't ever recall missing balls being an issue.

Balls go missing all the time in dalyer, not because fans steal them but because they get stuck on the roof of the Jodi

Some of the loudest cheers I've ever heard have been when the ball rolls back down after a few seconds

I thought this thread was going to be about refereeing in games and how teams are robbed by poor decision making during a game!

    Phew!

"maybe if you's focused on the football on the pitch rather than the football on the roof you's would be doing better" etc etc

True and some managers would have you believe we're a hard crowd to please. Clearly instead of trying the long diagonal from kick off every week they should just launch one onto the roof of the Jodi and wait for it to come down to get the crowd going. God knows long periods of possesion with no shots wont get us going

We had a manager that refused to let playes retrieve footballs that they had pinged out of the ground or in to long grass around the training area as it wasnt the professional thing to do. It was costing in training balls so a couple of ballboys were put on duty at training sessions. Attitude of that manager stank on a lot more than retrieving footballs. Kids do chase after balls kick out of Oriel match night but most are returned.

Many years ago in Turners Cross, there was only about 10 of us away fans and The Shed certainly loved holding on the the balls to delay play and then threw the balls back during play. As for smuggling footballs home, most clubs have more issue with whats smuggled in to grounds! Offer tickets for retrieved balls to kids, or have days where their own are signed, give old ones away or the cheap training ones if its significantly less in cost. The kid trophy is a ball that has a clubs name written on in marker, well in old days so maybe not now, so again write CCFC on a bunch of Aldi's best and give them out.

I thnk it was Ollie Horgan that was clattered by a football off the roof of the Main Stand in Oriel when it eventually fell to earth, at least I think it rolled off the stand but it could have been a Cork City JC style long ball that went wrong. I think Ollie thought he had been hit by something from the crowd and was immediately up for a quiet reply until he realised everyone was laughing and the ballboy bravely went and got the ball back.

This on the heels of the seat smashing...I don't buy that it's all over excitement btw...there's plenty of it elsewhere but no seat smashing. Call this a hatchet job but I remember when Billy Dennehy got into an on pitch row with Mark O Sullivan who was a crowd favourite...bizarrely the Shed were goading the latter to floor Billy..they're on the same team in a big a european game! Throw in the €25 ticket mian and I'm detecting a certain lack of collective here.

Did Shamrock fans do a fundraiser for him straight after?
