The needle has gone out of the Bohs fixtures at least for me. They haven’t been mapped as footballing force for 16 years now.

We could lose all 4 games against them this year and still comfortably win the league. And that would be just fine.
I think many Dundalk fans would feel the same way. I'm in my 40s now, and the group I go to games with, would always choose Rovers as the team we "hate" the most.

Drogheda would just been seen as the noisy neighbours who have the odd small period where they are better than us

Dreadful decision. We'd have missed the penalty anyway, mind you.
Nonsense to rule out that Connolly goal too. Such a poor refereeing performance in extra time.

Took us 60 minutes to get going last night. We've said it again and again, but Lynch is getting the backline wrong. We won four in a row, lost to Sligo, then Lynch brought in wholesale changes. It's not working, we've kept one clean sheet since.

It's been mentioned before, but Drogs work rate is top class. They're not actually that good a side, but Kevin Doherty has done some job at making them a pain in the arse to play against. Something which cannot be said for ourselves.

Our selection for the shootout was weird. Mullen makes sense, but throwing in lads just at the club, one of them a centre half, doesn't. Duffy should have been hitting earlier. No point saving him for the fifth when we don't even get there.

Plenty of anger last night, shouting at the squad at FT. I worry that's our season done. We could go on and lose a few more games, finish mid-table.
IMO, if we finish on less than 66 points (one better than last year), Lynch should be shown the door. If we don't get Europe, I'd say he's gone regardless of points total.

Massive win that. Overall we deserved it but Shels had two opportunities in the second half that could have changed the outcome. A few of our lads looked jaded towards the end but we hung on in there. I thought Melia and Kavanagh had great games. Roll on the next round.

Did Shels put out a strong team or did they have one eye on Thursday?

I enjoy the Derby but in the 90s and particularly in the early to mid 00s I always felt Shels were our main rivals, You were largely ****, Shels were in their pomp, we had a lot more success and the games against them really meant something each season. Was only 2010 when you lot finally came on my radar again.

If we're not a good side, what does that make derry?

We've the second lowest budget - serious work rate - but even with such a low budget, everyone under estimates how good we can be at times. And I love it!!

As for derry, never thought we'd lose lastnight. The chairman can keep throwing all his money around, but they'll never have a decent team up there until they dig up that pitch. Sligo are actually better than them imo. Lynch is a bluffer, and as for their support...... a man, his annoying drum and his dog comes to mind

Hard luck to Longford. They pushed the cup specialists all the way and have done their club proud.

Good stuff from Pats today. Shels definitely started the better and latterly had a couple of big chances to pull a goal back, but in between we were much the better side. Melia in particular was excellent.

Forrester pulling up with his hamstring could be a disaster though. Nowhere near the same side without him.

It was a strong enough side with a hint of rotation. I like the look of Mbeng looks a very handy player.

Turgid rubbish from Rovers second team, none of whom did anything to suggest they should start on Thursday . Lee Grace was strong as usual and Noonan looked lively but other than that it was a game befitting of only 1,700 turning up.
Still, our good season continues on and let's see who we draw in the next round.

I dislike these Dundalk fans that think Drogheda are our main rivals as much as i'd dislike Rovers. Just for the record its more a dislike for the club than the fans oddly enough, there are fans that can annoy me a good bit more than any Rovers fan could, I dont think Ive known a Rovers fan I have disliked actually for all the rivalry. Thugs dont count not that I actually know any.

Ah that Coference League nonsense doesnt count! The last year was a bit of a blur literally and selectively during times of full clarity and if I didnt see it it didnt exist. Of course if it had been Dundalk it would be the undoubted best of LoI in Europe ever!

In an ideal world the cup is about crap games you win handy enough. It’s about getting to the final and winning the big day out. The sticky part is meeting your rivals inbetween that.
