    Gone To The Dogs

No not slagging anyone, just interested in compiling a list of teams who have played EL/LOI home matches in Dog tracks and the Dog tracks concerned too.

Cork Bohs played in the Old Cork Greyhound Stadium.
Brideville, Transport, Shelbourne, St. Patrick's Athletic have all played in Harold's Cross Greyhound Stadium.
Shelbourne also played briefly in Shelbourne Park.
Waterford F.C. /United played in Kilcohan Park for most of their existence only moving to the RSC in 1993.
Thurles Town played in Thurles Greyhound Stadium
Longford Town occasionally played in Longford Greyhound Stadium.
Galway United occasionally played in Connacht Sportsgrounds.
and finally Derry City have always played in Brandywell Stadium... a dog track.

That is pretty much it i'd say .... cant think of anyone else anyway !!

Have to say though that dog tracks/running track are complete sh!te around pitches ... kills the atmosphere !!
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

Hours later, and none of Ollies lickarßes have answered this, am I surprised... no, not really. I suppose if you're going to Outer Skerries the last thing you'd want is a tradition.

In fairness, say what you like about a ****e atmosphere, some of the facilities the IGB have are the dreams of the eL.

Not really. In Harold's Cross and Shelbourne Park there's probably seating for 300 or so behind a glass window. Then one small (in football terms) covered terrace and that its. Granted the bars/restaurent thing is great and that alone would make a fortune but no team could actually play at a greyhound tadium now...

Oh and we played at chapelizod greyhound stadium too...

W.r.t the old greyhound track in Cork, I think that Cork F.C (or something similar) may have played there too, I will check it out though.

True enough but I'd say the majority of the money to fund all the developments came from lottery or Dept of Sports grants.

Didn't Oriel Park use to have a dog track? A long time ago now, but that wide gravel strip that I think has been removed since the new pitch went in looked like the remenants of one.

Yeah, makes me laugh when I hear fans complaining about the lack of atmosphere in the RSC. Kilcohan was just as bad, in fact because of the area for the bookies, the stand was even further back from the pitch. Don't think you could get much of an atmosphere for a match in Shelbourne Park though. Wouldn't see any sharing as a progressive move by clubs. They could learn a lot from the marketing aspect though!

Ya but we played in a dog Track before that which is what I believe you wanted to know

Come on, small bit of credit, I'm only 19, was under the (false) impression Rathbane was an early 90's thing
