Irish by birth ,Harps by the grace of god.
If it is to do with stewerding style, it is another 'precious fans' to add to my list. The world over stewards vary, as bad as they get in LoI its is like personal consierge compared to other leagues and we do have the give an inch and take the p1ss kind of travelling fans here.
For Longford fans.
Why are away supporters housed in that wee corner of the ground, surely behind the goal next to it, would make more sense? Not like you don't have the space !
Plus would look so much better too on tv / atmosphere.
Lovely ground btw, nice set up.

https://kesslereffect.bandcamp.com/album/kepler - New music. It's not that bad.
How drunk were you that you missed the crumbled wall and the fence being used to close the stand off lol.
On a more serious note that section you were in was always the designated away section because there is a separate entrance there with turnstiles if we needed to genuinely separate fans and they can put portaloos, food trucks etc over there while you can control access to that area of the ground.
Yeah I meant longer term and for previous years, thought behind that goal would have been the obvious spot for away fans.
Makes sense now, thanks.

Just saw article on X that Shells are considering moving their game v Rovers to the Aviva Stadium. Dont know if it's a spoof, but I don't think they'll get the same crowd as Boys v Rovers
Everyone wants their big payday against Rovers.
Can't say I'd be that interested in going back to the Aviva, the view from the south stand Is woeful, the stadium is reminiscent of a plastic bedpan melted at one end ,but then that's D4 nimby's for ye!
It's good for more clubs to be trying to expand their fan base and showpiece games in the surrounds of the Aviva should defo be encouraged. I would however share the same concern as you. It's ~25000 spectators to break even from what I remember. With it being the height of summer there's the risk that many floating neutrals who would go to an even may be away or eyeing up their holidays in the near future so less likely to go for a day or evening out as the case may be. Then you have the prospect or European games/trips being around the corner for many of their own fans so if the ticket prices are deemed prohibitive the core support may be smaller. Maybe theres a fixture later in the season that could be part of a title run in that might be a better fit?
If there's truth to it which I am presuming there is I can't see it being popular amongst most of the Shels fanbase for multiple reasons primarily they will struggle to hit the 25k breakeven mark on a Friday night when other LOI games are on (a well promoted Saturday night in June may have had better chance), giving up home advantage in a derby against a possible title rival and then how would Shels season ticket holders be impacted because the clubs just can't turn around mid-season and tell you that your season ticket for a Rovers game at the Aviva would suddenly now not be eligible
Bohs took a gamble for a lot of reasons, took some flak from some of their own fans/other LOI supporters and it paid off but it is likely any future LOI games at the Aviva will hit diminishing returns or possible losses
The Leinster Senior League needs a strong Bohemians
I agree that Shells probably don't have the fan base to achieve the numbers of the Bohs v Rovers game. Also as this was the first of it's kind it had to bring in a large number of neutrals and first timers. I would say that if Bohs v Rovers was on in the Aviva again the numbers would be less the the season opener. I do believe that Bohs v Rovers is the most attractive game and the only capable of attracting over 25k but not every time. If one was on a bad run or mid table they would struggle to get 20k

3,600 at TC for the Shams visit, and 600 of that were Shams fans!
That’s such a disappointing crowd in Cork, it’s a shame they have not kicked on in the last few years like the rest of the league. They would have got a crowd similar to that 10 years ago when the popularity of the league was way less.
I know ticket prices are high, but to be fair the owner has put €1.4m into the team over the last 2 seasons and is asking the fans to come on the journey with him. Are fans just skeptical that he is trying to grow the club / brand, exploit supporters etc and then cash out down the line?? It’s not a model that works in the LOI, or most football leagues to be fair. Either way for the size of Cork they should be getting over 6k for fixtures like this.
They are 2nd bottom in the table but are charging the most expensive ticket prices in the league so not surprising that crowds are a bit low. Maybe the club should have a rethink on the prices to get more fans through the turnstiles.
