I never thought id see the day the league became this popular. I remember the days when I could watch the first half from my ST seat in the main stand and then stroll over to the camac for the second half no hassle.

I remember in 1996 a Pats Bohs game there as being given a 6.000 attendance but thinking now I can't see where that could come from given the stand was less than half the size..no stand behind the goal and loads of unused areas

I hate to say it but it didn’t look remotely like 806 based on the main stand and the 2 behind the goals.

You'll often have a couple of hundred under/to the side of the camera that you never see on stream if there's a bit of a crowd. I think the big stand holds about 1.5k, so can easily have 3/400 in there and still look relatively empty

If the place can hold 5k total, that's just over 15% capacity, so even when there's over 1,000 it won't look heaving.

There were Longford crowds provided last year that did not match the attendance. There was one where I had photos of all parts of the ground while the game was in play at various points throughout, counted several times and the gap between the attendance and attendance provided was very significant. I doubt they numbers they provide are 'bodies in the ground', perhaps they have a different calculation of tickets distributed.

Something I found out recently is that in England every attendance given includes every season ticket sold by the club that season whether they attend or not ,I don’t know if it’s the same here but would explain some of the attendances given I think…..

It will slip under the 2k mark, in the 1.8k next game. Cobh will be the next 'bumper' gate of 2300 imo and the the slow fall off until the run in. Maybe there well be a less fickle tendency this season bt I think patterns will be similar.

Cobh v Athlone attendance went under the expected 1,000 mark to 827, because of heavy rain during the game.

Weather really affected the crowd, thought they would at least break the 1,000 mark given the good start, a status yellow rainfall warning earlier in the day might have had an impact? Thankfully the rain stopped about an hour before k.o but came back at the start of the second half.

That's Dundalk's lowest of the season, but one trend that needs to be watched is, I think its a reduction on every game so far, from the high of 2,600 (clearly closer to 3K) on opening night v Athlone.

Would think home to Wexford on Fri will prob see an end to the reduction trend, then Cobh at home after that should swell it a but prob needs to be looked at, missed the Longford game myself as was coaching under age, most games Sat am, but at least that season will finish in later April / early May, also as expected the 80-90% drop in away attendances at this level is also a factor. That is by no means a swipe at any club, full credit to the 30 or so Longford fans, the 100 or so Treaty and whatever Athlone took on day 1, any away fan travelling has to be good, especially to that away end **

**Note to other FD clubs and especially this season, pay the extra 5 euro, head to the stand, 3 or 4 rows at front reserved for away, very good view of the pith, access to upstairs bar, better coffee / tea / snacks, nice crew in that bar too, away fans always well received, god forbid 3 toilet options too.

Terrible really what Dundalk have to offer away fans. Then again Pats and Shels both offer uncovered away ends too.

    Dundalk v Wexford - 1,926...................

That's every game in a row now the attendance has dropped for Dundalk, the almost zero away fans are starting to bite, overall crowd was around 100 down on the Longford game, last game at home. Maybe a few hundred headed to the races that were on at Dundalk stadium same night, it looked busy I drove past on the way to the ground.

Would imagine next home game v Cobh should be close on 2,500, but would think crowds will probably hoover around 2k mark all season, then again some of the Mon night league games under SK got just under 2k the very odd occasions.

Ryan Moore was in town tonight so I'd imagine there would have been a slightly larger crowd than usual at the races alright.

There are always distractions elsewhere though and its a well established trend. The save face part is that its a 1st Division crowd. But there hasnt been a whole lot done to look in to crowds, trends, or attendance development. There has been some organic growth regardless over the years which is a positive in the absence of title tilts driving numbers up. Being unlikely that there'll be PL trophy possibility this decade it really is time for the club to look hard at the issue. Catch 22 with Oriel is that it is sufficient for current crowds in most basic ways, when they are dividing up funding.
