A sneak screening of a new documentary about Jack Charlton is on next friday in the Irish Film centre. A bunch of the players will most likely show up, if anyone is about.

It’s rare when one man can inspire a nation and unite them in pride. It’s even rarer when an Englishman can do this for Ireland. But when Jack Charlton took the reigns of the national Irish football team, he did just that. Presented by an enthusiastic Colm Meaney, this documentary takes a look back at an historic era in Irish sport, a time when the Republic of Ireland fought their way onto an international stage and stole the show. Insightful, honest and frequently hilarious interviews from some of Ireland’s best known footballers and entertainers such as John Giles, Paul McGrath, Ardal O’Hanlon and, of course, Big Jack himself, this is not just a fine sporting chronicle but also a thoroughly entertaining watch.

The film will also be screened in Belfast on Saturday 8 October.

Yep, there was a piece in the Sunday Independent about it and how after the defeat BY (not "to") Italy, Charlie Haughey and some of his other cronies came into the dressing room and delivered an address about the "sons of Ireland" and Townsend says to Cascarino. "Who is that guy ?" and Cascarino says "some fooker who owns a tea shop" (Taoiseach). This is according to Niall QUinn but I suspect that story has gained legs over the years although I do remember Jack calling him the "Tea SHop" . I think Mick Byrne had taught him the phonetics of the title.

Yeah I remember Chris de Burgh coming out onto the pitch too, for what I still have no idea.

It opened last night in the IFI.

Anyhow by all accounts is a load of glorification about nothing really with no real substance or contributions from anyone of any note.

It fails to covers a lot of the more pressing issues about Charltons reign and the players he snubed.

Also (c) prevented the usage of a lot of the more well known clips.

Still prob will pop along to a viewing.
