Favorite: Dublin
Least favorite:Cork

Fav:
- Sydney: worked there for about 6 months and loved every minute of it.
- Boston: only spent a couple of days there but really liked it

Least Fav:
- Prague: cos I got mugged there
- Dublin: Im not overly fond of Dublin. Worked there for 4 years and had some
great times there but all in all its over priced and over rated.
1 thing that really annoys me is the people from "down the country" moving
to Dublin for work/college, and within a month they have the terrible pretend D4
accent and suddenly nothing in the world compares to living in Dublin

Your not going to believe this but im from Dublin and i would put Cork or Galway ahead of Dublin any day. Dublin is the same old every day it gets boring (thats why everyone is going to Australia and places like that, including me, had to get that in) and we have the madest people in the world here. Its still home and ill never leave Dublin for good but its started getting s*it after my junior cert nit!

Athens is definitely the worst city in the world. I wouldnt hold a conversation there never mind an olympics

I think Dublin is a great city.
You'll soon find that no matter where you are, life becomes boring once you settle into a routine. For many people, it's a case of the grass being greener.

I've heard so many people come back from Australia saying how great their time was. All they did was temp work and get ****ed. Then they moan about Ireland because they have to face up to their responsibilities.

edinburgh - came here for a weekend, loved it, so deceided to move here, still loving it
new york - just an amazing city
basle - beautiful city, and small enough to get around

least favourite:
dublin - dirty city, and it was a pain in the arse commuting to it when i was in college
aberdeen - had to spend a week there for work, very long boring week, the city seemed dead after 6' o clock
athens - a city even dirtier than dublin

Favourites:

Brighton - Everyone rips the p*ss about it, but its a great, so chilled out and friendly.
Derry - I have a real soft spot for Derry, and think I always will.
London - It got something for everyone. Well I like it anyway.

Im not well travelled enough (yet) to pass judgement on which cities I really dislike.

Not really a huge fan of cities tbh, despite having lived most of my life in them. Not to say I haven't had great times in the cities I've lived, but my ideal would be live in the country with a crash pad in the city.

Favourite:
Dublin. Despite the rip off's it is a good city, once you're actually living in the city not in the distant suburbs. And again, despite my depressing rant of the other day, isn't actually that bad walking around at night (even if it is getting worse). Never had an incident in 3 years of walking around post pub and nightclub and only ever saw one incident (when living in Parnell Street and it went off in the Blue Lion between the locals and the immigrants).

Least Favourite:
Liverpool. Full of scousers, which is enough for me....

very good point peadar, but as a whole austrailia has a lot to offer, in terms of birds, bird watching, sight seeing, diving , weather etc. this cant be said about ireland really.

i think you cant judge a city till you have lived there or gone there quite often, a week almost anywhere with the right people will (nearly) always be great.

I have seen a lot of negative feedback about london, something i have to say again cant be judged on after a few days or a week, however i am here up on two years now nearly, and i have to say it is nothign special, i dont know how all the yanks and commonwealth countries come over here and rave about it i really dont. its just like dublin, but dublin is better in my opinion.

Another thing, Dublin is one of those places that most of my mates from home would never go as its big not friendly llah de blah, the kind that love galway and cork, becaues they are bumpkins, who arent well travelled etc, and i have found that the people on here who are saying cork are either a from there or b just what i have described.

DUBLIN IS a big city, it has all the other things that big cities have, except good pubs, open late, good clubs, with decent music, and friendly people ( in general ). galway and cork are small ideal for small minded people who dont want to see the bigger picture, its comfortable, friendly, easy get round just like a big town....

I've lived in New York, Dublin, London and Melbourne and I now live in Galway. Galway kicks the ass out of the other 4 cities. I've seen the bigger picture, probably more than you and I don't have a small mind but there's no place in the world like Galway.
You can walk anywhere, there are great pubs, great music, good theatre and culture, lots of sport, beautiful scenery on your doorstep, gorgeous birds (some anyway) and most importantly a relaxed and friendly atmosphere everywhere you go. That cannot be said for any of the aforementioned cities.

I think you'll find its people that make comments like yours that are small minded.

what do i have to back up, i have met many people like that, i have gone to school with the same kind, i have a very good mate who raves about cork every time i speak with him, i have friends over here that want to go back to ireland but not to dublin, why? cos they like the town mentality, dublin is too big, too many people, too crowded, too hard get around etc etc. i dont need to describe the people for you surely, i assume you can comprehend that for yourself, i have heard this from them all, its what they feel, something that a town offers them or a @city@ in this case.

I think there are some very small minded attitudes in Cork City.
I actually find West Cork more accepting that Cork City.
Even if it's just something as small as wearing a pink shirt and a product in your hair, there are people in Cork who'll try to make out that you're Gay.

Thanks Finlma.Don't mind the the Dub he's just jealous that most people outside of Dublin hate Dublin.And BTW the last time i was in Dublin,they had pretty much everything we have,just bigger.Obviously there are exceptions(Lansdowne,Point etc)

Dublin has more of a small town mentality than anywhere I've ever been- people who've moved there are "blow-ins", people who live anywhere else are either "foreign" or "from down the country." The attitude of so many Dubs is encapsulated in Noel King's comment: "I can't see outside Dublin." The problem with Dublin is that its such an almighty sprawl- its actually just a town that got surrounded by a couple of gigantic housing estates and swallowed up a few nearby villages. I've had some great times there, and I have some great friends there, but i just don't like the place. As for it being too big and too hard to get around- absolutely! Madrid has 3 times the population, but in terms of physical size, its a lot smaller and easier to get around. I love the big city mentality, but Dublin is just in a state of confusion as to what it actually is.

I actually don't like Galway that much. Too big for the town vibe, too small for the city one.... I don't know, just something about it I don't like - actually could be Galwegians always talking the bloody place up so much
