Wexford FC v Treaty (FAI Cup)

Treaty never got close to dealing with Wexford’s pace and power in a very one-sided first-half in Ferrycarrig tonight as the home side gained an easy passage to the FAI Cup semi-final. With Ethan Boyle out injured, Wexford started with Conor, Darragh, Cian, Divin, Kian, Thomas, Dobbsy, Luka, Lewis, Sean and Reece. Wexford began like an express train and the warning lights were flashing for Treaty right from the start as a long throw by Wexford’s Cian O’Malley was allowed bounce inside the Treaty area and hit the underside of the bar and away after only two minutes. Wexford’s dominance in the air resulted in a number of corners immediately afterwards and from one of these on six minutes, Divin Isamala won the second header to put the ball past Chambers in the Treaty goal to put Wexford a goal to the good. A minute later, it was 2-0 when the pace of Thomas Oluwa, which caused havoc all game, won a peno for Wexford and Thomas finished from the spot to put the home side two goals ahead. With Wexford’s midfield in complete domination, all the pressure fell on the Treaty goal, and it was 3-0 on 23 minutes when Divin Isamala again profited from Wexford’s aerial domination to knock the ball home from close range. Darragh Levingston then went close for Wexford with a flicked effort before, on 44 minutes, Thomas Oluwa also got his brace when he was fed the ball inside the Treaty area, turned his marker and fired it home to complete a 4-0 whitewash at halftime. Treaty’s cause had not been helped by being forced to bring on a number of substitutions during the course of the first period.

With the tie already decided, Wexford understandably took their foot off the gas in the second half although Treaty undoubtedly played better in this half helped by the introduction of Yoyo Mahdy and Trpimir Vrljicak. Treaty had a really good chance at the start of the half but Conor Walsh’s “star” shape enabled the Wexford keeper to block the effort with his right foot. Wexford’s Kian Corbally then almost forced a poor Treaty backpass into the away goal for another but it went just the wrong side of the post. Subs for Wexford as the half progressed included Conor Crowley, Ben Lynch, Kaylem Harnett and Cian Curtis. In injury time, Treaty registered a score on the board as the lively Vrljicvak finished from close range. 4-1 to Wexford at fulltime with powerful performances all over the pitch for the home side with Thomas Oluwa and Divin Isamala especially impressive with their brace of goals each. Crowd was believed to be 1,063.
