Best Gufc game you were at

There is little happening on the forum so i thought i'd put this one out there.I often ask people this question and alot of people come out with the same match, that i reckon will come up here aswell.I for obvious reasons wouldn't have been at as many big games for united as other posters but i have been at most of our big matches in the last 5 years. For me it would have to be the cup game up in the showgrounds when we bet Sligo 2-0.The atmosphere and Galway following that day was unreal and that's why i picked it.The playoffs against Harps and Drogheda were great crack aswell but Sligo still edges it.So what about the rest of yee?

    I think...

I think the best match was .... When we knocked st. pats out of the FAI cup in the 2nd round replay in richmond park, January 2000. It was one hell of a match, it went right down to the end , there were a few funny things that i can remember, it was the same match that pat Dolan ran half way out onto the pitch to give the ball back and speed up the game...

That was the same FAI cup run as the Athlone Mud-bath and The very funny goal from micheal keane at Finn Park, (where he struck a low long range shot very close to the goalkeeper, and it wasnt powerful, but insted of stroling over to it and picking it up, the goalkeeper dived at the last minute and let it in!) and the one where it was a free kick from outside the box, the players pretended to have a fight, then while the finn harps players wernt looking, the free kick taker sneekley went for the shot and got it in (ollie keogh i think) they also tried that at the athlone game, i really remember stupid things!... it ended with the shelbourne match at home (but lets not talk about that!) - that was one long sentence

Rovers -v- United 2-2 at Milltown in 1986 best game of LOI soccer i ever saw and George Hamilton and Gabriel Egan reckoned if it was televised it would have had the fans drooling.

Other games were the 5-2 in RDS,3-2 against Rovers in terryland dec 87,the 2 pats cup games,2-1 against Cork the first floodlight night in terryland and 12/5/2001 Landsdowne in the sun.

Amazin how many highlights were against the shams.

    Best ever game ..

was in the 1994 FAI Cup, even though we lost 4-3 to Dundalk. We went 2-0 down, they brought it back to 3-2, Donnie Farragher equalised in the last few minutes, but Dundalk won in extra time.

Beating Sligo Rovers 5-0 with five second half goals, that FAI Cup victory in Richmond Park, League Cup victory in Turners Cross are other highlights.

And (adopts local accent) that great game in 1977, when Chick scored against Thurles Town. There was only ten people at the game. Where were ye fairweathers then ? Eeeeeh.

    Best game ever

The game in '87 against Rovers, 2-0 down, then down to 10 men after
Chic Deacys boot collided with the behind of a Rovers player! Went on to win 3-2 on a typical wet and windy and dark Terryland Sunday afternoon.

Strangely enough Chic ended up winning the player of the month that month, everybody thought he won it for kicking a Rovers player :-)

Other memorable moments were winning the FAI Cup against Rovers,
beating Pats to stay in the Premier Division thanks to Billy. Beating Pats in Terryland in the Cup q\f 1-0 and of course beating Pats away 3-2.

Thumbs up Best match 4 me...

Has to be when we beat Athlone a few years ago 3-1 in Terryland and Tony Folan ran 70 yards and beat 4 players and scored like the best goal ever. It was also a cracking game.
