As expected, very even game between two sides vying for fourth spot in the league and it ended, not surprisingly, in a 1-1 draw. Wexford started with Jayne, Abby, Lolly, Della, Kylie, Ellen, Ceola, Meabh, Aoibheann, Aine and Grace. Wexford started the better in the first half but Peamount finished it strongly and both goals took place during their team’s period of dominance. On three minutes, Wexford’s excellent Ellen Molloy broke through to the Peas goal but Jetta Berrill for the away side made a smart block to prevent Ellen from shooting. On ten minutes, Grace Fitzpatrick also got through to have an effort on the Peas goal but Reid Burke effected another good save. On 12 minutes, a very high Peas defence enabled Aine Walsh to have a run in on goal and Walshie did very well to outpace Jetta Berrill and tuck her shot left-footed just inside the far post of the Peas goal. 1-0 to Wexford. Wexford then had a good shout for a peno after Ceola Bergin appeared to be cleaned out by Reid Burke after the Wexford forward had lifted the ball over the Peas keeper but nothing was given. Earlier, the Peas had had their own shout for a peno when Wexford’s Grace Fitzpatrick had been caught the wrong side of both the ball and a Peas attacker when trying to make a tackle but again nothing was given. As the first period came to a close, it was the Peas who began to apply pressure on the Wexford gaol, mainly though former Wexford player, Becky Watkins, who was the key attacking threat for the away side. It led to the equaliser on 41 minutes when Watkins was allowed to turn and curl a good left-footed effort into the top corner of Wexford’s net. 1-1 at this stage. As the half entered injury-time, a shot from distance by Karen Duggan of the Peas was just clawed away by Jayne Merren at full stretch and the half ended 1-1.
Second half had fewer chances and game probably deserved to finish 1-1. On five minutes, Wexford’s Ellen Molloy had a great run and shot which went just over the Peas bar. A Peas free-kick then ended up going just the other side of the Wexford far post with nobody able to get a final touch. With 24 minutes gone, Rianna Jarrett and Alyssa White entered the fray for Wexford and later Teegan Lynch. As the game entered its final stages, Peas sub, Mia McGonnell, was put through on the Wexford goal but her shot was tamely hit straight at Jayne Merren. Just before the McGonnell chance, Rianna Jarrett tested Reid Burke with a really strong header but the referee gave a free-out. So, 1-1 at fulltime and honours even.
