I dont think slagging off a racist comment with another stereotype generalistation helps much.

Don -I don't have a huge amount of time for the GAA (the organisation) but this isn't the thread to go into it -though I'll be happy to another one. (Mods mightn't though )

While I stand 100% over my redneck hick sh1te description of Trickys remarks and refute Cowboys claim that they are a further stereotype and generalisation - I take back, without qualification, the GAA Boards remark.

It was trite of me and unfair as intimation could be taken that Trickys remarks might find more support over on GAA boards. I rarely visit GAA boards so I wouldn't know -but will assume they wouldn't.

    Apologies to all concerned

So let me get this straight you sink to the level of the very comment you criticise in order to denounce it? Perhaps you could elaborate on your definition or understanding of a redneck hick so I can try to understand where you are coming from?

Delighted to ...and indeed should've done in the previous post.

If I were defining or explaining the term 'redneck hick' I would point out that the term originates in the southern states of the USA and is generally used to describe persons (usually though by no means excusively from a rural background) with a simplistic parochial conservative or right-wing outlook that involves a misguided passive superiority complex and an instinctive aversion to persons not from their locale/race/religious denomination/political affiliation/gender or other.

I think Trickys comments fall well within that definition of what could reasonably be construed as Redneck hick.

I'll also remind you I didn't call Tricky or anyone else a redneck hick ...I attacked his post and called it redneck hick sh1te and I stand over that. Therefore I would contend i haven't "sunk" to anything like his remarks level.

Well I know some guys who consider themselves rednecks who would be offended by your definition and in fact have none of the attributes you mention. I understand where you are coming from but I still maintain this is a stereotype and is little better than the original comment you criticised.

Can we agree to disagree on this?

Yes you did when you put this at the end of your post,
" Away back to GAA boards with you"
and you had to be reminded twice of your indiscretion before you apologized.(thank you for the apology)
So you think you can take statement out of your post, apologize 100% for it (acknowledging that you are prejudiced). Cut it out of your post, then come back and stand by the rest of your post.
Your post in its entirety, sunk to the same standards as the one you accused.

I think we might have to

I'm certain I know of no-one .(well ...maybe yer man in 'Doc' who sings 'Achey Breaky Heart') - who'd actually describe themselves as a Redneck - even the ones who'd hold sway with most of the dispositions I listed previously.

Do the guys you refer to use 'Redneck' in some tongue in cheek self deprecating description of themselves as 'Country lads' or something?

    Famous rednecks would include
*the entire cast of the dukes of Hazzard 70's tv show
*Cleetus (the slack jawed yokel) from the Simpsons (heh Maw!!! Get off the dang roof!!!)
*Yer man from Doc mentioned above and generally all others who like to start sentences with the words "Back home...." before wandering off into some tiresome analogy or other involving agriculture.

Nonsense Geysir -though if you'd like me to cut the GAA boards reference out of the original post I'll happily oblige. I didn't before now as I didn't want to appear to be "covering my tracks" as it were.

As for having to be "reminded twice of my indescretion" -I can only log on and check my e-mails and posts so often. I replied promptly when it was pointed out that I myself had crossed a line.

I've apologised for a remark made in the heat of the moment -a remark possibly coloured by an earlier reference in the this thread, by a different poster (possibly Total?) to Clinton Morrisson knowing nothing about hurling.

So if you'd like me to take the GAA boards remark out (in light of my explaining why I hadn't) I'll do so.

They regard the term as a badge of honour possibly in the same way that some black people use the N word (i wont type it as i dislike it intensely no matter who uses it) towards each other. heres an example thats easy on the eye http://www.gretchenwilson.com/

Anyhow there is basically nothing wrong with the term 'slanty eyed' in
my opinion, no more than the term 'brown skined' or 'yellow skinned'.
It just describes an attribute of a persons appearance, I don't see why
anyone should have a problem with the term.

I take it that you agree, that people such as you, should not be allowed
to play in the Irish team then, because there are a lot of people here
would not want the likes of you in the team. I don't expect you find that
    offensive though.

Some people may have found my remarks offensive but that maybe because
they are inherently racist themselves, thinking that people with slanty
eyes are inferior, not a belief I hold.

Of course you know my answer to that question and I believe you are just trolling now. Can you know see that so many people objected to your remark, does this not tell you anything? Why not just be a man and apologise so we can all move on.

Seem to me you are the Troll, the fact that many people are in agreement
does not make them correct, only a fool, or a large number of fools
    would bellieve that.

Only a fool would ignore the blatantly obvious. I shall not be responding to any further posts from you on this subject.

If you choose to ignore the blatently obvious truth in my post then that is
    your perogative.

The facts do not support this statement. It took about 4 hours after you logged on today. You had taken the time to post a message at 9am approx on this thread. I had pointed out your indiscretion yesterday evening.
Just admit it, you are from somewhere in rural Ireland, you are really a supressed GAA fan but feel too ashamed to admit it, therefore the big front.
Come to the GAA board and talk about it.

You're now also displaying just how quickly you can backpeddle, revise and re-interpret your own words Conor Lenihan style.

I have not backbeddled revised or re-interpreted my words, just pointed
out that they are not offensive or racist, at least not unless you find
the features and attributes of different races offensive, which I don't.
Quite a few people do apparently, and they are the racists, not me.

Why don't you guy's ask the man straight if he is a racist or not? If the answer is No which i am sure it will be just leave it at that.I really don't see why he would deliberty comment on such a sensitive issue that would cause offensive to anyone.I grew up in Ireland and even to this day the travelling community are treated differently and get called names much more offensive than this.
I work in England and the amount of times i have been reffered to as a paddy and listening to Irish jokes been cracked every day of the week,I would be locked up in very special hospital by now if i heeded.ts all said in jest and i give back as much as i get.Lads just lighten up and dont take everything so serious as imo what he said was not meant to be racist
