hate/rivalry doesnt just vary according to country, it varies in each country from team to team from match to match
Yeah, I'd agree with that Anto eile, good point, and at the end of it all, its all about passion for your own club, Forza Shelbourne!!!

You're right that there isn't just violence randomly at football - it's generally between certain teams. But the intensity and severity of that inter-team violence clearly differes by country.. And there are clear correlations between the general socio-economic development of countries, and the level and intensity of their inter-team football violence, where it ccurs.Originally Posted by anto eile
For example - the level of football violence in places like Argentina (double-figure deaths per season, shootings, stabbings, the entire league suspended for a period of time due to trouble) or Turkey (everyone is pretty much aware of how 'heated' their supporters are, and the 'ring of steel' protective measures that have to occur at many matches there) are clearely worse than anything that happens regularly in the likes of England, Germany or France. That is indisputable.
Another €500 fine for Bohs. This time for racist comments aimed at a Wayside player in the Cup replay.
And two new pitch invasions in two weeks, that they'll probably be fined for as well when there's a next FAI think tank get together. Bohs fans don't exactly make life easy for themselves![]()

It must only be in Ireland where the away team can get fined. What did wayside do about this abuse? Did their security evict the people? The same with the pitch invasion at Pats? Their fans go across the pitch every game, why do the away team get fined because Pats don't spend enough on security? The same point for the Bray game earlier in the season? Apart from the goal the other night I am not aware of any invasion by Bohs fans at Dalymount because we pay a lot for security. Surely the home team has this responsibility and should be fined if their secuirty is not adequate. The same goes for the banners at the Shels v Rovers game, I cannot understand how a club that has no responsibility for the security on the night can suffer. The FAI use this as a money making racket, my point being €500 for an invasion but €300 ofr actually hitiing a player! Only in Ireland.Originally Posted by joeraki
Utterly stupid. It wasn't the home fans who were to blame for the incidents. You have to take responsibility for your own actions and stop trying to pass the buck. I think the FAI have criticised stewarding at grounds as well, so it is something they're looking at. But in the end of the day, how is a steward supposed to stop fans shouting racist abuse? Are they supposed to pre-guess which fans may start up? Are they supposed to pick an individual out of a large crowd by his voice alone and eject him?Originally Posted by chippie0001
Chippie, I'm not defending kids going on the pitch at Richmond (or anywhere else for that matter), but surely you can see there's a difference between after a game and during a game?
Revenge for 2002
Yes thats what they are meant to do? Its there job, fans were thrown out of Dalymount on Friday, picked out of a large group. But how can Bohemian FC be responsible for an away match. What can they do if 3/4 idiots start shouting racist abuse? If the home team and their secuirty do nothing, why sanction a club that can do nothing about it. I have been at games in the UK where stewards throw people out regularly for hassle.Originally Posted by pineapple stu
I agree it was not the home fans, but how can the away club stop it if the home club cannot?
I can, but your kids come down to the far corner where the away support is looking for hassle. Also Tony Grant was abused by one of these kids when we beat you. Either fans are allowed on the pitch or not. Its only inchicore it happens at the end of every game. Why are you allowed to be different may I ask?Originally Posted by Dr.Nightdub
I assume the idea is to encourage Bohs to take a long-term approach to eradicating this, starting with identifying and banning those responsible. You can't fine the home team for the away fans' behaviour or you'll have away fans looking to start trouble everywhere because they know the home team'll get done. I know the stewarding isn't great at times, but the FAI have commented on that as well.Originally Posted by chippie0001
So how precisely are Bohs meant to ban fans etc if the home team don't throw them out and give the names to the club etc. If the home team with their stewards can't identify 3/4 people how are we meant to do so? As I said we don't have invasions at home as we pay alot for security, but if the home team do nothing, how on earth are we meant to identify these people? Bohs and Rovers asked the FAI to keep a register of trouble makers and to be circulated around all clubs to keep these people out. The FAI refused. So if we have people banned from Dalymount and they cause trouble in Belfield, what further can we do?Originally Posted by pineapple stu
The FAI cut down on - pretty much eliminated - the sectarian booing by publicly condemning it. An announcement over the PA or in the programme or something may help. Liaising with the Supporters' Clubs. Obviously, liaising with the stewards is the obvious answer, but it can't be done. However, the standard of stewarding is being looked at, as far as I know.
Bottom line though is that if you fine the home team for away fans' actions, chaos will reign. It'll make things far worse rather than better.
