    Wexford FC Women v Treaty

Comfortable win in the end for Wexford this evening although there was a period in the second half when the destination of the points was in doubt. With Kylie Murphy injured, Wexford started with Jayne, Abby, Lolly, Della, Ellen, Ceola, Meabh, Aoibheann, Teegan, Freya and Rossi. After a slow start, Wexford went on to dominate the first half and deserved their lead at halftime. It was DLR that threatened their opponent’s goal early on when Bolger had a shot which was pulled wide of the Wexford post and then Jayne Merren did well in the goal for Wexford to grab a goal-bound DLR effort. Wexford’s first genuine attempt on the DLR goal resulted in the lead for Wexford when, on 22 minutes, Teegan Lynch worked hard to keep the ball alive for Wexford and crossed the ball to Freya De Mange who once she got the ball onto her left peg was always going to score. 1-0 to Wexford. Wexford dominated the remainder of the half with a number of corners etc. but without unduly worrying Eve Badana in the DLR goal. On 32 minutes, DLR should probably have scored when a simple cushioned volley could have beaten Merren but the effort floated a yard or two wide of the Wexford goal. Wexford then followed that chance for DLR with an audacious overhead volley by Della Doherty and a shot by Wexford’s Ceola Bergin which was pushed beyond her far post by Eve Badana. 1-0 to Wexford at halftime.

For whatever reason, Wexford's general dominance from the first half wasn’t replicated at the start of the second period as DLR came more into the game. It resulted in an equaliser for DLR on eleven minutes when their most dangerous player, Michelle Doonan, latched onto a through ball and comfortably finished past Merren. 1-1 at this stage. Aine Walsh was then introduced by Wexford and from about midway through the half, Wexford began to dominate again. The excellent Ellen Molloy then tested Badana again but the DLR keeper pushed Ellen's effort away for a corner. Soon afterwards, Wexford regained the lead when the ball broke to Ciara Rossiter during a Wexford attack and she finished past Badana for 2-1 to Wexford. It was soon 3-1 to Wexford and the game made safe when Ceola Bergin shifted the ball onto her right foot and finished smoothly for 3-1 lead for the home side. With about eleven to go, Wexford introduced Rianna Jarrett and Nicola Sinnott and later Mia Lenihan. After Rianna had nearly scored with her first touch, Badana produced a tremendous save to keep out a thunderous Jarrett volley from close in. 3-1 to Wexford at fulltime with Molloy, Bergin, Clancy (playing her 100th game for Wexford) and the two fullbacks, Conlon and Russell, impressing in particular for the home side.

Title of this thread should be "DLR Waves" and not "Treaty." Apologies!
