    Wexford FC v Treaty

More than a touch of mid-season malaise about Wexford as they fell to a disappointing defeat to Treaty this evening despite having more of the play. The intention of James Keddy as expressed in his programme notes to strengthen during the mid-season break may be required to freshen up the squad. Wexford began with Alex, Cian, Ethan, Mikie, Kian, Thomas, Dobbsy, Luka, James, Carl and Reece. There wasn’t a huge number of goal chances in the first half but Wexford probably had the better of them but still went in a goal down. On 14 minutes, Corey Chambers in the Treaty goal showed good reflexes to push a Mikie Rowe header around his post for a corner. Four minutes later, Wexford’s Reece Webb had an effort a couple of yards wide. Not much in the game from then on until the 37th minute when a simple through-ball put Lee Devitt in the clear and he knocked the ball past the advancing Alex Moody in the Wexford goal to put Treaty a goal ahead. Wexford had two efforts on goal after the Treaty opener through Reece Webb and Kian Corbally but neither was enough to beat Chambers and Wexford went in a goal behind at half-time after a fairly lack-lustre first half.

Wexford brought on Darragh Levingston at the start of the second period and created a number of chances early on in the second half but Corey Chambers couldn’t be beaten. Just after the start of the half, Mikie Rowe had a shot from a tight angle which was deflected just past the Treaty far post for a corner. Wexford had the ball in the Treaty net from the resulting corner but it was ruled out for offside. Thomas Oluwa then had a shot blocked by the feet of Corey Chambers and Ethan Boyle had a header which ended up straight into the arms of Chambers. Kaylem Harnett and Mark Hanratty then came on as subs for Wexford and later Aaron Robinson and Cian Curtis. Midway through the half, a Treaty defender picked up a second yellow which left Wexford with an additional player. But good defence by Treaty coupled with fairly ponderous Wexford play meant that the home side never really threatened to get even a goal back before the end of the game. 1-0 to Treaty at fulltime. Crowd was believed to be 378.
