    Galway-Athlone take in Roscommon friendly

First Division rivals Galway United and Athlone Town will go head-to-head in a friendly on Sunday afternoon at Skyvalley Rovers’ new facility at Onagh Park, with former Irish international and current FAI Technical Director Packie Bonner the guest of honour at the ground’s official opening.

Athlone’s first win of John Gill’s reign came against Galway at Golden Island Park two weeks ago.

The game between the eircom League rivals will be the centerpiece of an afternoon of events, which also includes a game between Skyvalley’s first and second strings and meetings of the respective under-12 and under-14 sides of Skyvalley and the Roscommon League.

The opening day is sponsored by S. Kildea & Sons Ltd., Bealnamulla, Athlone Co. Roscommon.

In 2003 the club received a €45,000 sports grant to develop additional clubhouse facilities, and the club has built two new dressing rooms with showers as well as a referees’ room, kitchen and a gym room.

    Sunday 11th September:
Friendly: Galway Utd v Athlone Town, Onagh Park (Skyvalley Rovers, 1pm)

It was 1 - 1. Very much two fringe teams on show as far as I know.
