As expected, competitive and tight game between two closely matched sides as Wexford gained a valuable three points in Ferrycarrig this evening. Wexford started with Jayne, Abby, Lolly, Della, Kylie, Ellen, Ceola, Rossi, Meabh, Aoibheann and Teegan. Wexford probably shaded the first half although Jayne Merren, who had a star game in the goal for Wexford, had to complete a good save to prevent a Treaty forward converting from close in after only four minutes. After Wexford’s Ellen Molloy tapped a chance over the Treaty goal but was given offside in any event, Ulliac in the Treaty goal showed good hands on a number of occasions as she saved a couple of shots from Wexford’s Ciara Rossiter. Wexford’s defence generally had the control of the Treaty forwards and nearest Wexford came to scoring at the other end as the first half continued was a clipped cross to the far post by Ellen Molloy which was just too high. 0-0 at halftime with Wexford having looked the more threatening.
Second half was more even. Jayne Merren had a few catches to make early on which she managed safely and, after 12 minutes, Aine Walsh came on for Wexford in place of Teegan Lynch who had a bright game. Lead goal came for Wexford on 16 minutes when Aoibheann Clancy drilled a low shot just inside Treaty’s right-hand post which Ulliac couldn’t keep out. 1-0 to Wexford. However, the Treaty equaliser didn’t take long as their sub, Caleigh Boeckx, finished from close range after the ball had bobbled around the Wexford area. On 27 minutes, Wexford regained the lead when Kylie Murphy converted a near post header to finish off a corner by Ciara Rossiter. Late substitute for Wexford was Nicola Sinnott and both sides forced corners as the game progressed but without adding to the scoreline. 2-1 to Wexford at fulltime.
