The McAleese precedent reminds us however that there is no requirement that the candidate be born in the Republic or that they be resident here at the time of contesting.
This is correct. It's the US that requires the candidate to be a natural born citizen. The rules of eligibility for Ireland were basically copied from the US, with Dev inserting that one distinction to make sure he was eligible.

Wasn't there a (half-serious) campaign to have Roy Keane run for President post-Saipan? I hate this country sometimes.

Well, if Kevin was ever persuaded to run he'd get my vote and the vote of many others - I couldn't think of a better person to run in my opinion - the work he does for charity alone is well known

    Yeah.

It was in the Mail on Saturday that he would be heading over for that game.

It's not as far fetched to see him as a president. However, outside of football circles would he ever garner votes?

He's a ledge and I have to say I don't ever think we'll ever see the likes of him ever.

I think Clark was poor because of the general uncertainty of the inexperienced back four. He will have learned from this game.

Yes, caught out of position on a number of occasions. I saw an animated discussion between Trap and Tardelli after yet another raid down our left and two minutes later Delaney came on. Looks like Killer has the spot for a few more games yet.

If KK gets his coaching badges he certainly would be a lad you would like to have around the squad in years to come. Model attitude.

Scored a peno in the shoot out as well. Killer is alive and kicking in his new role in central midfield.

Exactly. Leave him there. He's just not an international full-back any more.

I have to say I would say both Ward and Delaney are better options than Kilbane now. Cunningham too, when he gets back from his injury. Clark also.

I love Kilbane, but we can't play the guy forever. He isn't good enough anymore. We can't expect to win this group with League One utility players, depite how dedicated to the cause they may be or how good they weree in the past.
