The whole idea behind the severity of this fine is to MAKE SURE he never does anything like this again. At least now we all know he hasn't been warned!
I agree that he's had it coming to him, but rather than doing it this way, they should have punished him a couple of years ago instead of just warning him. If this had happened the whole thing might have been nipped in the bud instead of getting to where it is now, i.e. more bad publicity. No denying he deserved massive punishment, but it should have been handled better.

Thanks to the ever helpful and informative Andy Needham in the el Office - he just cleared up any confusion about the extent of Ollie's ban:

He's banned from the dressing room area and playing area.
i.e. he can sit in the stand and watch the matches but he can't go onto
the technical or pitch area, nor can he be around the dressing room area.

So basically all the places he shouldn't have really been anyway?

I thought that that rule applied right accross the board anyway in relation to anyone other than players, technical staff and match officials. Other than in exceptional circumstances why should anybody other than the above be permitted into these areas anyway?

So he's not actually banned from anywhere he shouldn't be anyway.

The offices in Tolka are adjacent to the dressing rooms under the new stand. Probably the same in other grounds. Club directors usually go into / use these areas before during & after games - say even for the half-time cup of tea?

Pity Pats f*cked up and caused all that, entirely their fault and that's where the blame and anger should lie. Dolans web of lies after never helped anybody either, but no change there. The difference between that incident and this was they were the rules. If there was a rule about saying points should be deducted for what Fenlon and the rest did, then it'd be a good analogy. There isn't, it's not.

Surely he's more of a threat to public safety if he's forced to stay in the stand!

I think the FAI should reverse this ban. I mean literally reverse it.

Shelbourne Secretary Oliver Byrne must remain on the playing area at all times for one hour before, during and for one hour after all matches.

If he got a 2 grand fine for much ado about nothing with the Drogs PRO what's he going to get for the big dukaroo with Roddy. Not to mention offering straighteners to Bohs fans earlier inthe season.

Who ever writes the FAI press releases must absolutely hate Ollie. How many descriptive adjectives are there in the English language anyway - he's going to have to make up his own soon enough.

Ollie has been sternly warned about future behaviour
Ollie has been severely warned about future behaviour
Ollie has been strongly warned about future behaviour
Ollie has been hypersupermongiously warned about future behaviour.
