Bye bye Germany
It's all over now
won't even make the play-offs at this rate.
Cannot see France, the Swiss and the Rabbis all screwing up at this stage.
Have to agree, can't even see us beating the Swiss TBH. Hate to drag it up again but had we been able to hold a fcukin lead we could've easily afforded this defeat.Originally Posted by CollegeTillIDie

Thought we played pretty good. Well as good at them anyway, a draw would have been the fair result.
Full time Ireland 0 France 1
They didn't play all that badly.... just not enough of our so called class players played exceptionally well.... Duff a major disappointment for one.
We are 4th now. At this rate we will do well to finish 3rd in the group.
So we lost , where do we go from here?
1 Switzerland...... 8 4 4 0 17 6 16
2 France............ 8 4 4 0 9 1 16
3 Israel.............. 9 3 6 0 13 9 15
4 Rep of Ireland... 8 3 4 1 11 5 13
5 Cyprus............ 8 1 1 5 7 14 4
6 Faroe Islands... 9 0 1 8 3 23 1
Looks awful. Where do we go from here? Christ knows, but it doesn't look like it'll be Germany.
Just win the last two games and we're in the playoffs. How many more chances does Kerr get. He should have qualified us for Euro 2004, he had the chance the last two games but didnt. Has had numerous chances this World Cup qualifying campaign but didnt. Even if we do qualify for the playoff and then lose he should be out.
"Jacques Santini...will be greeted in every dugout of the country by "one-nil, one-nil" - Clive Tyldsley, 89th minute of France-England June 13, 2004.
"Ooooohhhh Nooooooo" Bobby Robson 91st minute.
It looks like if we win the next two games against Cyprus and Switzerland we finish at least second on 19, as Israel can only get a max of 18...??
Herd-ild orr Pressss!
Our best hope now is for the French to win the group and us to go for 2nd place. If the French beat the Swiss and we win our 2 matches we'll be going for 2nd place with Israel, but it doesnt look good at all, and we'll find ourselves in tricky group for Euro2008 as well.
yeah and France have to beat Switzerland...
I dont know if we can beat the cyprus without Roy Keane and Reid
I think we're going back to the dark old days when the North did better then us!

If we fail to qualify then Kerr must go. He's had a multitude of chances. End of story.

I'm not quite sure where to post this, so if any admin want to move it or close it or whatever, do what you have to... bugger someone got one up before me, sorry!
Well, it was one of those games you either win 1-0 or you lose 1-0. In the past Ireland have won a lot of games like this, and tonight we lost one. The difference was the class in Thierry Henry's boot, to be able to offer absolutely nothing all game, then one kick of class.
Its so hard to take the team to pieces over it, they worked so hard and came so close - but just lacked that cutting edge in the final third. For a game where both sides dominated at different stages, it is surprising how seldom the keepers were made to work. France did so twice all night, once for Shay's amazing save, and the other when they got one in. We didn't really offer that.
Around the pitch, I thought we were superb in the first half and not too bad in the second, but just lacking that final ball. Roy Keane controlled the game in the middle, Andy Reid justified his selection twice over and Kenny did the quiet things that no-one really notices. I felt that Clinton and Robbie worked hard up front, but were often quite isolated as a result of KK being tied up with other central midfield duties, and Duff not really featuring as much as he might.
As I type this I increasingly wonder what we did in the second half. The answer as I'm sure you are all aware is, bugger all. Sometimes when Duff isn't at the races Ireland really struggle for spark. We needed his run to get everything going, that run he had, what if he'd ran it into the area and either got collected by the static centre half, or had a better shot? What if Robbie had ran on a bit more before shooting? Ahh its going to eat at me.
I don't even want to think about the consequences of tonight. Its all slipped away from us.

If we dont finish second I think questions will be rightly asked of Kerr, he might stay in the job if there is noone else to take it. If we finish fourth (a distinct possibility) then I think he will resign.
A few of the playing staff might want to think about following him out the door too. Some of them just ain't up to the standard required.Originally Posted by Plastic Paddy
Harte was useless.. didn't make one accurate pass.
Work rate was fantastic from Ireland. We just lacked that last pass to open it up for us.
imho Roy Keane was outstanding and a draw would have been about right.
Crowd sounded up for it for a change...................
