    Amhrán na bhFiann

Just so those of you lucky enough to be at the match tomorrow ngiht will have no excuse. Print this out for yourselves (40,000 copies would be even better), learn it off, and belt it out!!!

Amhrán na bhFiann (le Peadar Ó Cearnaigh)
(abbreviated version as sung at international matches)

    Sinne Fianna Fáil
    Atá faoi gheall ag Éirinn,
    Buíon dár slua
    Thar toinn do ráinig chugainn
    Faoi mhóid bheith saor,
    Sean-tír ár sinsear feasta
Ní fhágfar faoin tíoráin ná faoin tráill.
Anocht a théam sa bhearna baoil
Le gean ar Ghaeil chun báis nó saol
Le gunnaí scréach, faoi lámhach na bpiléar,
Seo libh canaigí amhrán na bhFiann.

Paul O'Shea, my thanks. I am just trying to do my patriotic duty. And as a wise man once said, 'fail to prepare...'

I never liked me much as a player either, truth be told.

People are insulting their country by not bloody singing it. Not every foot.ie user sings it. Not every foot.ie knows it. The more the better.

I learnt it in school but didn't know the correct pronunciation. This should help:

Sinne Fianna Fáil, (Sheena Feena fall)
Atá Fá gheall ag Éirinn, (A-taw fay yal egg air-in)
Buidhean dár sluagh tar rúinn do ráinig chughainn (bween dor slooa, har tin duh raw-nig hween.)
Fámhoídh bheírh saor, (Fwee voij vay sair)
Sean-tír ár sinnsear feasta (shan teer are shin-sher fas-ta)
Ní fágfar fá'n tíorán ná fa'n tráil; (nee fawg-ferr fween tear-on naw fween troyl)
Anocht a theigeamh sa bhearna baoghail, (ah-nocht ah hay-im sah varna vweel)
Le gean ar Gaedhí chun báis nó saoghail, (le gyan err Gwail khun boss no sayl)
Le gunna sgréach: Fá lamhach na piléar. (le gon-nuh shkrayk fay law-voc na bill-air)
Seo Libh canaidh amhrán na bhFiann. (shuh liv konig Aw-rawn na bhFiann)

There's thousands of way of insulting your country. Not singing the anthem isn't one of them. Doing it half arsed is though

I just can't imagine standing there silent when that music starts. If I had a few on me in a pub I'd sing it when the anthem is played at the end of a Sunday night. I wouldn't sing it sober in the pub as I'd feel embarassed being the only person singing.

I tried to do my best when I sang it when I was at the match against Italy.
And I retried it wedn night at the pub, where there were 30 frenchmen, and just 5-10 irish supporters.
I was the only who sang it, but I was proud to do it.
It's a little difficult, but I found a singing version from the net, so I'm improving myself!
    Go lads!
I think it's not an insults matter or so bad things if someone don't sing it.
Just, it's important to sing it, cos I think gaelic is part of an Irish, and although I'm not irish-born, this is very important to me too, I feel.

You got a link to that?

Maybe we should sing it in english so everone could join in? Lets face it the only reason most people don't sing it is because they don't know how.

A lot more people speak welsh in wales than irish in Ireland yet they have their anthem in english.

Me also, although that was 25 years ago. God help anyone in our 6th class in primary school who couldn't recite it word for word .
