Last year the draw for the next round was the Tuesday after the June Bank Holiday. If that's the case this year we should expect it June 4th.

I think ideally what is now known as the 2nd round should be played either around now, or even two weeks later at the start of August.

The problem with having it in August is that the whole competition becomes really condensed, as happened in 2019.

1st round was weekend 11th August
    2nd round w/e 25th August
    QFs w/e 9th September
    SFs w/e 30th September

I remember this really disrupted the league that season.
I phoned the speaking clock to hear a voice speak, it said - "At the tone you will be very much alone"

Bohs are far too inconsistent for that. Unless they get a very lucky draw all the way through, plus no doubt one necessary big uncharacteristic performance.

I think the last few years have shown that you don't have to be the best team in the league to get to the cup final,as the better teams drawing each other through the competition narrows the chances of that happening.

There's actually 8 teams from Cork there and 8 teams from Dublin, both 1/4 each.

1/2 of the draw outside of Dublin and Cork.

Pretty sure we played them in the FAI Cup in 2004 season when they came to Longford I think!
Gary Cronin is he the right man to manage Longford Town?

Is there a local reaosn for their name, or did they just nick it off of *that* Leeds?

No idea, I had just googled them myself when I saw the name. Some of the Cork posters on here may know more. Pretty sure there’s an Everton AFC based in Cork as well

Most know when the draw a big club they will go out so treat it as their cup final and have a great day out, but remember Saint Francis went all they way to the final one year. In NI one year non league Carrick Rangers won the cup. I may be wrong but I remember Cobh playing several replays against one of the larger clubs before going out and Ashtown Villa beating Dundalk and Derry before going out. The euro teams will most likely have the strongest panels and therfore can rotate players to deal with any opposition put in front of them.
That was in Oriel Park also 1992 when Dundalk were defending league champions, still think we hold the record of most losses v NL clubs, 8 if I recall correctly.

Pretty sure they used to be Leeds United AFC too. Harps played them in the cup around 2001 or thereabouts

Carrick Rangers were mentioned on an earlier post, I never realised they won the cup up North as a NL club.

Home Farm of course won the 1975 FAI Cup, they were LOI then, but still considered junior club, saw this earlier, must have been the semi final v Pats, some crowd at it.

Carrick Rangers were in the old B division, I worked with Ronnie Whiteside who played Centre half. He was at least 6'6",a great basketball player too

Thanks for this. I've just checked and Carrick actually got through to the second round of the European Cup Winners Cup, the following season. A kind draw for the first round saw them beat Aris (Luxembourg) 4-3 on aggregate (H 3-1, A 1-2), before meeting Southampton in the second round and losing 9-3 on aggregate (H 2-5, A 1-4)

Home Farm got a much tougher ECWC draw vs Lens the following season, but got a great 1-1 draw at home, before going down 6-0 in France.
