Sligo still leading Cobh Wanderers by a goal to nil.
Derry now leading Pat's 3 goals to nil!!!
Derry responding to a tame European exit.
Sligo 2-0. Waweru with his second of the game. Barring any late drama, Derry and Sligo will be in the Last 16.
So if Higgins deserved to be turfed out if Derry lost tonight, does Kenny face the same calls now? His first game in charge of Pats was against Derry, since then he has presided over just 2 wins in 10 domestic games (3 in 11 is LSC is counted) while at the same time, Higgins has presided over just 2 defeats in 11 games. Yeah Derry bowed out of Europe but assuming Pats do the same, how can he not be in trouble? They were cup winners and finished just 3 points off Derry in third last year, what’s good for the goose and all that . . .
Anyone want to take flights to Zurich off my hands?
He’s 10 games into a 5 year contract,it would be mental if he was to leave now, you’d probably have to wait to this time next year to judge him properly ,I’ve no idea if he’ll be a success at Pats but I’d say he has enough credit in the LOI bank that he would be given time….
Irish by birth ,Harps by the grace of god.
Kelliher has splashed out on a 6 year contract for an overpriced manager and a whole host of new players, with a whole host of new players scheduled to join in the office season, although will any player of substance be wanting to play in Europe.
Pat's haven't a hope of finishing in the top 4 this season in my opinion.
if kelliher is any sort of businessman he'll be wanting a return for his very, very large investment next year I'd say..
interesting times ahead in richmond pk
Derry and Sligo both ran out 3-0 winners. The Last 16 are confirmed:
Galway
Wilton
Treaty
Bohemians
Waterford
Kerry
Athlone
Drogheda
Pike
Cork
Ballyfermot
UCD
Wexford
Shelbourne
Sligo
Derry
Bohemians, Shelbourne, Sligo and Derry are the standout potential home draws for Kerry, having not played them before. Treaty otherwise for a local derby and an even enough battle for making the quarter-finals.
Last 16 breakdown:
Premier Division - 7
First Division - 6
Non League - 3
Just asking - I know he has a long term contract, so was this season already a write-off when he came in? With just 15 games played from 36?
Would have imagined more would have been expected than just wins over us and Shams, he wasn’t exactly starting from a low base, so I was just wondering was there any suggestion of pressure or was this season just a free shot for him to get ready for next year, or the year after that, or the year after that or the year after that
some post match interview from duff. absolutely fuming with the players.
Agree with the comments about Pats. They were so poor tonight, but probably fair to say we didn't allow them to play much.
In saying that, Pats probably had the best chance in the first half, was it Melia who had the chance for a header on goal but decided to pass it instead?
First half was controlled by ourselves, without creating anything too clear cut. Had a bit of an ominous feeling after Patching missed with his rubbish penalty, but Duffy really turned it on after and it was over fairly quickly after that.
It's the cup, and a win is all that matters, but it was nice to do it so comfortably and with a clean sheet.
Bit mad to be thinking Kenny is in bother. This year is free pass for him, basically. It's certainly fair to question Pat's approach to the game though. Also, what advantage did coming up to Derry on the Saturday night give them? We looked the fresher team, even after 120 minutes the other night.
A lot of noise when Kenny was appointed - that’s now 2 wins in 10/11 games
I don't get the 'free pass' thing for SK this year, why? This was their only route to europe now closed off, and they won't finish 4th, even if they did, would need a top 3 to win cup.
He seems to be exempt from criticism from a lot of quarters, that was a really poor performance and I watched most of it, (in the background), and btw far from sour grapes, I thought he did a fantastic job at Ireland u21, he invigorated that whole set up, he was outstanding really, Ireland was a diff story.
He might do well at Pats, but some contract to be on with 5.5 years, he is well covered his end.
#DundalkFC - First Irish club to win an away game in Europe (1963), only Irish club to win a game / points in Europa League Group Stage (2016).
