I agree, he's shafted Kelvin, Herrick, Tynan and plenty more. He has no redeeming features as a manager.

Well, I might be one of his biggest (certainly most vocal ) Critics, but he does have some qualities- he does seem to work well with young players and have an eye for talent- e.g. O'Grady. That said, his deficits far outweigh either of those qualities.

O'Grady was known as a good player for quite some time. The only surprising thing was that he wasn't signed by a good club sooner.

He was an exciting young player with Sligo but has been dragged down through the ineptitude of the Cork City team.

Its not the team who are inept its the manager. Your views on O'Grady seem to be conflicting, basically it boils down to whether you think he's a good player or a bad player?

Thats percisely why he should step down as first team manager and concentrate on the youths, u17s etc. I cant see it happening though- moneys much better with the first team!!!

You don't become a good or a bad player- you play well or badly.

It is an added bonus if the player is from Cork, and indeed it might make it easier to convice them to play for City if they are a local, but it should not be a criteria that they look for in a player.

Ollie went on his way cause he was looking after his own. The board of CCFC certainly weren't going to look after him and he has given us much to remember. If he weren't a footballer and he was just moving on to a bigger better company where he's have more chance of success, nothing would be said.

Thats not what I said & you know it! I give my full support to Jimmy Muligan, and indeed every player that puts on a City shirt, but it is an added bonus if they are actually from the Cork region. I have always given 100% support to City players as individuals, no matter where they are from, while they are with the club. I have never shouted "Get the bald gnome off" like some people I have, and I was one of the few people to give Ollie a standing ovation when he was taken off at the Monaghan game. However, I feel that I owe nothing to players that are playing against City, especially ones who walk away from the Cross after prommising "I could never play for another Irish club" and then go to one of our biggest rivals when things start to get tough.

Some people have said (AFIK) that Ollie was in that "Gang of 5" crap and have given a huge amount of cr@p to some players (especially Jonny C) yet Ollie is not disloyal. This hyprocracy really pi$$€s me off, especially when people say that Ollie left the club and Gunther was the main reason for it. WHEN DID HE EVER SAY THAT??? He left because he didnt get the money he wanted, he has even publically said this! Jonny C was probably the most loyal City player ever. He wanted to retire last year, but the club asked him to stay, so he did. But what does he get from some 'fans' when he retires? A sarcastic chear and a big when he retires instead of the credit (where credit is due) that he deserves.

Sorry for going off topic a bit: Rant over and out

    Troy, Troy...

...I might have been a bit harsh - it my age - but your orginal post was a bit on the parochial side

Its great to see a club brining on young local talent but if we are to become professional we cannot be inward looking and rely on loyality to Cork/Munster. We should be striving to make CCFC the best career move a player playing in Ireland can make. This requires more than just offering more money to a player. It needs success which can only come from a full-time professional setup both on and off the pitch.
don't worry, they couldn't hit an elephant at this dis......

Every team loves having local/home grown players- thats a fact. But it shouldn't be a requirement to be born in the People's Republic to play for City.

OK, O'Grady is a good player, not a great one and definitely not one of the best in the League, which is why I was saying that he shouldn't be in the Eircom League squad. As far as I can remember I never said that he was a BAD player.

If Ollie said this I can understand some fans being a bit annoyed ( but I don't condone abusing the player ). Havign that said, if things have gone really sour at the X then I don't blame him for leaving, especially if he's going to a full-time club.

Look, if there's 2 or 3 guys form Dublin in the squad/team because of their exceptional quality, I have no problem. Id love if Glen Crowe came down to the X and started knocking them in for us, however I wouldnt relish the prospect of going out each week and watching a bunch of Jackeen rejects, who will just feck off and follow their manager if he goes to another club (ala Longford & Leicster). Im not saying that all 25 players in the squad must be able to sing De Banks since the age of 5, but if the choice came down to picking 1 of 2 players of equal ability, and 1 was from Cork, and the other wasnt, Id rather the one from Cork. But saying that, just because you are from Cork doesnt mean that you should get the place infront of the other one. The players should always work for their place in the team. Id rather a team of Jonny C's than Steve Gaughn's
