Setanta to broadcast League Cup decider

Irish satellite broadcaster Setanta Sports will carry live coverage of this month’s eircom League Cup decider between UCD and Derry City from Belfield Park.

Setanta have underlined their commitment to domestic soccer with the sponsorship of the lucrative Setanta Cup, while they are also part of a three-channel deal with RTE and TG4 to carry coverage of eircom League and Cup games this season.

Is there anything special being planned ..... this is UCDs first chance of getting some silverware in a while right !?! Would be good to see a good effort on the tellybox !!

    Hello!!!!!!!!!!!!! (sorry for shouting)
We won two national trophies last season and were a point off winning the first division.

To answer your question, the SC will have some plans, yes.

I don't suppose there's any plan to do anything with the Cascarino Stand is there? There'll be only 1 working stand on view for the camera in that case. 1 more than the RSC mind you!

Cascarino has been closed for a while anyway - gets very slippy when it's wet, so it's a bit dangerous (well, not really, but since idiots can sue for anything these days...)

Aberdonian Stu's looking at writing up an article for the local papers ahead of the match. We'll get a few posters out and a load of e-mails around too for a start. If anyone has a 6' tall bit of cardboard, pass it on to Bald Student!

He's been away on holidays. The club had a golf classic arranged for last Tuesday, so he wasn't at the Cup game. Didn't see him last night. Going to go ahead with some sort of promotion for Fresher's Week anyway.

This game offers a good opportunity for UCD FC to try to connect with their students a bit more (that's if they're back by then ?). Everyone loves a cup final/glamour game - even if they don't give a feck about the club for the rest of the year. Team Bath in England found this when they were making their way into the first round proper of the FA Cup last season.

Why not entitle everyone with a campus address to a free ticket ? Free entry into the Union club for any one who's been to the game, etc etc.

With the game live on telly, there's an even greater onus on UCd to try to maximise the attendance and atmosphere.

Alas UCD diesnt have a union club The free on campus ticket is a good idea, but campus students are quite lazy, so they would hardly walk "all the way" to the far side of campus. Now if there was an enterance at the Merville side of the ground a lot of that would change Id say, but I wouldnt hold my breath on them doing that
As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.

In that case the women did a treble. He's possibly referring to the U-21 League and 1st Division Fair Play award?

The Campus tickets is a great but sadly unworkable idea.

We mooted it before for LC and even FAI Cup games but because of the split gate it can't be done. It's a bloody nuisance as FREE entry into the League Cup final would be a great draw.

We can't even use Freshers week to promote it as the game is on the week before freshers week (methinketh).

The game's on the 20th. This week is registration week, which would make next week (or at the latest the week after, the week of the game) Freshers' Week.

The split gate does seem to do for the promotion, though.

Should have been in a neutral venue but anyway decorate the place with as many flags as possible and make an occasion out of it. Take it into extra time so the Derry boys will be tired out for our Cup game!

Definitely. Shouldn't've been scheduled for a weekday either - Saturday night in some other Dublin ground or in Oriel.

Fair Play Award isn't a trophy. One or other of the women's trophies is presumably what he was referring to.
We're not arrogant, we're just better.
