Cork confirm Slavia Prague ko times
Cork City have today (Sep 2nd) confirmed to UEFA a kick-off time of 5.30pm for their UEFA Cup First Round, Second Leg tie v Slavia Prague at Turner’s Cross on Thursday September 29th.
Slavia Prague earlier this week confirmed a kick-off time of 8pm local (7pm Irish time) for the first leg at the Evzena Rosickeho stadium on Thursday September 15th.

IMO thats too late. If it goes to extra time and penalties, then it could be on till about 8.15, at which time it'll be totally dark!

I meant despite the fact they're not up to scratch I assume you'd turn them on in the event of it getting dark as opposed to playing in darkness.
The whole thing is pretty ludicrous.
Are we playing some different type of football now, that needs more light?
If it gets dark before the end of the game, do we have to abandon the fixture becuase the lights are not bright enough?
I can see why UEFA want decent grounds, decnt lighting etc. etc.,

Face, the lights were good enough for the Djurgarden game.
They are good enough for this game too.
The 1st round proper doesn't suddenly require a doubling of the luminosity value becuase it is somehow extra special football.
If you want it to be a black or white situation fine, but if it gets dark during the game, as it will for tyhe last half hour or so, they will accept the lights in the Cross. So whats the problem with accepting them for the other 60 minutes or so of the game?

If UEFA had Okayed the floodlights we'd be playing it at 7/7.30pm, not 5.30! So that means we cant use them, so what happend if it goes to extra time?
Do you read your own posts? Clealrly Uefa have said the lights are no bright enough for playing football at 9-10pm i.e. when no natural light left. We will be playing latest 8.30 when there is still natural light to complement our floodlights.
Its not as if the floodlights are the wrong colour.
We will definitely be using the lights on that evening.

I dont think there'll be any natural light at that stage, especially if it is a clooudy evening, but I see your point.
If there is extra-thick, super-grey cloud, like this afternoon, will Uefa ban that stuff and abandon the game? Will there be a Uefa cloud moniter in the VIP section? We need to know before shelling out the bobs for a game that might be called off due to insufficient luminosity.

UEFA require the extra luminosity for TV. Its so they can show the 1st round propper of their 2nd major club competition on TV, without viewers in Switzerland having to turn up the brightness on their sets - it has nothing to do with having enough light for the players or the fans.
So will that mean that they won't televise the last half hour of the game, because we will have to use the lights as they are now, without that extra luminosity?
Does it mean that Sky cannot show the U-21 game tomorrow night, because fans in France and around Ireland will have to adjust their sets?
There is an inherent contradiction in their own rule here, and it just makes UEFA look silly.

You argue that the 2nd QR was able to use the Turners Cross floodlights so why not the 1st Round. I take it then that you would carry this argument right through to the final, Or would you maybe stop after Round 2 or 3 or 4 etc?
UEFA need to have rules regarding standards. Why you cant be happy that the rubbish EL floodlights were even good enough for the fist two Qualifying Rounds I dont know

PART of the City v Prague game will be played under lights, the same lights that are deemed not bright enough for all the game.
Now down here, well away from those sheep, like you, who believe every piece of idiotic sh*t fed to them by the hooligan, we tend to question stupid situations like this.
If the lights are acceptable for 30 mins of the game, why aren't they acceptable for 90 minutes of the game?
This is probably far too difficult a concept for you to grapple with, so run along back to the other schoolchildren on your little board.

Sorry again, the rest of my post got lost....there is a joke going on here about luminosity and our beautiful grey skies that might have bypassed the more irritable among us. The sky over Cork of a September evening is often very beautiful, possibly even illuminating, but definitely not to be depended on for a decent game of backs and forwards on the Mardyke. Of course Uefa are right to insist on their rules, no problem, we'll be there on the day, whatever time the kick-off is.
Because for the 30mins, the floodlights will be assisted by another larger light source, the sun. If however you were to continue for the other 60 minutes, the sun would no longer be there. Some people explain this by saying that the earth moves around in a circle, but I prefer to think that God likes to turn the lights off slowly!
