It would be indeed. But in fact, he's calling it a puerile opinion because it is, in fact, a puerile opinion. Just because you're too bigoted to see it as such doesn't change the fact that he's right to call it so.

Clinton "Come and get me Sven" Morrison is not Irish. No Irishman would beg the manager of England to pick him.
Matt "God Save the Queen" Holland is not Irish. No Irishman would sing God Save the Queen, let alone in front of 70,000 people in Wembley.

My brother was born in England as my parents were living over
there at the time. Moved back when he aws 1 or 2. He's never
had an English passport or anything but anytime he annoyed me
I used to always throw the Brit thing back in his face to wind him
up. Cost me a fair few beatings in my youth

And I suppose the 20,000 Irish people who sang (hummed) the French national anthem in Paris are French

I can and never will understand this Aryran race pure and green blooded Irishman theory.

French anthem is the best tune ever!

    Your second sentence is nonsense.

I agree - the theory is nonsense.

Hmmmm, you're still Irish if you sing the French national anthem because it's a catchy tune but you're not Irish if you sign along to God Save the Queen because it's a brutal song. I see.

    Italian for me, stunning.
The above is all opinion and based on personal experience. Unless stated otherwise it is not a dig at anybody, well probably none of you lot.

Not getting in to the debate on the Irishness of these two. However I think you do Holland a big injustice. I believe he has always put in a good shift when wearing the green, an industrious player if not the most graceful, the likes of which a team with our 'limited ability' needs. Scored some important goals as well (Portugal away and Cameroon in Japan).
I thought you were off the drink Ronnie?

Not really arsed about their performances, should never have been picked in the first place imo. Not irish, just a career choice. The fact that professional players play professionally when picked is irrelevant.
If you attack me with stupidity, I'll be forced to defend myself with sarcasm.

So what? He is hardly going to turn up and not try. If the Jamaican bobsled team called me up I'd try my best, it wouldn't make me Jamaican though. Nobody is debating how good/bad these players are. As I said if it was Ronaldinho, Zidane or Wayne Rooney I'd still feel the same.

Actually, I stated that my response was not with regards to the Irishness of Holland, I was specifically talking about his performances for Ireland. I don't disagree with either of you on this one, I am strongly opposed to the 'career choice' brigade as well.

Well actually tetsujin1979 commented on Hollands performances for Ireland, I disagreed and posted as such - so I guess you are wrong that nobody is debating how good/bad these players are.

This thread seems to have really lost all scope. Can we please stick to McCarthy at Sunderland? The whole Irishness thing is something which has been debated ad nauseum on the Irish International team forum.

Stable door, horse, fecked off long ago. Rearrange the previous into a coherent sentence. If you'd have slapped Sligoman down earlier in this thread when you should have done for his pathetic anti-McCarthy diatribe, this "debate" wouldn't have happened.

No need for that PP. Obviously I didn't catch it in time but better late than never.

This thread lost its scope from 02 January (look at the posts that day). You are the moderator of this particular forum/thread and have posted on various other threads on 02 Jan, 04 Jan, 05 Jan but have made no 'moderators' comment on this thread until 06 Jan.

Posting on 06/01 'This thread seems to have really lost all scope. Can we please stick to McCarthy at Sunderland? The whole Irishness thing is something which has been debated ad nauseum on the Irish International.' smacks of either patronising crap, your inability to moderate a forum or your 'silent' support for your fellow moderator Sligoman, who posts on this thread have resulted in 'This thread seems to have really lost all scope'

If you have a problem with my moderating then you're more than entitled to take it up with Adam. I'm certainly not silently supporting Sligoman. When a moderator misses something members can do their bit by bringing it up too. I had decided initially to allow it to naturally come back to its topic. It is only since the 5th that this topic utterly went to hell and moved away from McCarthy altogether. PP, you for example are a moderator and only helped fan the flames and you also could have easily raised any problems here on the mod board.
