    1984

Anybody seen the film or read the book. Saw the film last night for the first time. Excellent stuff, was trying to make out which regime it was depicting.

John Hurt excellent too. The whole rat in the cage thing was scary, especially the way Burton starts explaining the process oh so calmly.

    Any opinions.

It is my favourite book of all time - hated the movie though not a patch on the book.

Excellent book, havent seen the film. In a way, so much of it seems to have come true, amazing seeing as it was written in the 1950's!

Eitherway, it freaked me out big time (I read it just before going to Korea, was ment to go to China too but wasnt able to make it, Id have been highly suspicious around there!)
As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.

My favourite book, I love it. Was just talking to a friend about it a few days ago. I have never seen the film, I'm not sure if I want to as I like the book so much.

Love the book... the Movie was not great merely passable.
Eurythmics were supposed to do the entire original soundtrack, but did not get all the material ready in time. All that was left for the soundtrack were two songs Sexcrime(1984), and Julia. Both of which were released as singles.

That's right he reversed the 48, never liked the book much, much prefer Animal Farm and Homage to Catalonia

What makes 1984 so good is that despite having many traditional flaws it is still an utterly compelling read. Julia isn't a well-written character and there are structure problems but these are irrelevant to the reader as the story has you completely in its grip.

I heard the made-for-tv version done by the BBC in the 50s is quite good, starred Peter Cushing. I've only heard bad things about the eighties one.
