On the flip side, it would look dreadful having away fans in such a huge stand too. If there's less than 100 away fans in a 2000+ seater stand it would look awful. Doesn't look like the sort of stand you can easily cordon off either.

A really odd decision to put the store and offices there , on a match night the away crowd will be walking past and maybe through a load of home fans. Not generally a problem but the derby? We both have enough gob****es to make that a problem unfortunately.

Few days to go. Last season over 30k attended opening night. This Friday Derry likely to be smallest attendance in prem, more to do with capacity, 3k plus, 4k plus for Bohs and Galway and possibly Waterford - stands on both side sold out for home fans, Rovers 6K plus. Cork hard to know, but would expect 3k plus with the other 4 fixtures likely over 1k.

Post match there was a Garda cordon forcing all away fans out to the right towards the blue bridge over the road that leads to the square carpark. I went the same way to the ground pre-match but there didn’t appear to be that same cordon pre-match

Safe estimate of about 8-9k in the First Division, about 23-24k in the Premier Division.

Outside chance that Tallaght sells out at 10k as well.

Great times for the league. Up to each respective club to take advantage of it.

Seen somewhere today, we are being advised to go over the bridge pre match on Friday night aswell as after the game

Always laugh at that. Force everyone to go over the bridge into a car park where home and away fans are all parked together anyway.

With Rovers being the only club with the possibility of increased attendance and the new boys Galway and Waterford having fantastic interest it makes for a bumper year. All of the rest will have full or very close to full houses each week. If the new boys get off to a good start the may take up their allocation of away tickets providing banter and atmospher at the games. It's all really positive. Best of luck to all tonight and for the season ahead, except of course if you are playing Bohs.

Waterford and Rovers still have tickets available, but should be 25k plus at prem tonight.

As do Galway, who are putting them on sale in person again from 5pm onwards. They say they expect it to sell out though. With the amount of ticketless Pats fans heading down I’d say there’ll be a lot of practising of Galway accents going on on the train down to be ready for 5pm

Rovers won’t sell out tonight. Not selling east stand tickets yet so that stand likely to have Dundalk only and probably 400 / 500?

On that basis unless the other stands are jam packed there will be less people then for the Presidents cup

Opening weekend last year had a bit shy of 31,000, and opening 2 weekends came in a bit under 60k.

Losing Cork and UCD kind of balance out really. A little hard to see the average across the 5 games being more the 6k without Turners X.

It's the first division where I'll be really interested to see how the numbers fair week 1 and month 1. It's not the graveyard anymore and clubs like Athlone, Treaty and Wexford should be aiming for regular crowds over 1k.
