Avondale United (H - Munster Senior Cup)

In many ways, Friday's game is the mirror image of last season's Ringmahon tie in the FAI Cup, in that this time Avondale are halfway through their season, whereas we're the club in the midst of training. The Cork side last week played their first match since early December, with Simon Falvey scoring a hat-trick, underlining his status as the MSL side's principal attacking threat. AFAIK, this will be the first fixture ever played by a Kerry side in this competition, so that, along with memories of how close Ringmahon came to opening the scoring in the first half last term, should see a first-choice XI fielded on Friday, in the hope of avoiding an upset.

The Munster Senior Cup seems to be the way things are going. Unlikely the League Cup will make a return. The Leinster Senior Cup have opted for 4 groups of 4. Depending on how that experiment goes, the Munster Senior Cup might see 3 non league clubs join the 5 Munster LoI clubs in 2 groups of 4.
Back to the current setup, January is a good time for a non league club to claim an LoI scalp. Treaty beat Ringmahon after extra time last year.
The Munster Senior Cup offers an avenue for more games and silverware, there I say it. Hopefully Kerry can hit the ground running with a positive result that will see them host a quarter-final on February 2nd.
