Yes indeed John Caulfield has indeed officially announced his retirement today after 16 seasons with city. He has been a great servant to the club and I strongley believe he should be granted a testimomial, and the sooner the better.

    Wink

Johnny thanks for the last 16 years and good luck for the future.
Cork City's most loyal servant without a doubt. (no matter what the gang of 5 conspiracy theorists would have us believe). And Johnny remember **** the begrudgers. But then again you always did.

Johnny C shouldn't be remembered for 1 season & the gang of 5 stuff.

16 years is a lot of time with a club for what i'd assume was little reward.

Starting a new season with testimonial would be great.

Good luck to the fella. Pity he spoiled a good career with City by doing the boll!x last year under Mountfield. Only Daly, Murphy and Freyne left of the old school... More rope please...

Johnny C is one of the all time Cork City heros.

He always gave it his all, whether it was argueing with the ref or thrusting himself forward for a dive.

Seriously though, the man from New York/Roscommon was the cause of many a happy moment during my childhood. Formed an awesome partnership with Skippy and always led from the front.

Pity he never got an extended spell as captain as he seems to be pure City to the core. It would really be a shame if Johnny C & Skippy didn't get a testimonial. If there was a CCFC hall of fame, he'd be gaurenteed a place.

I hope he stays on at the club coaching youths.

Isnt he a youth coach already?

He really was 'City til I die' through and through!
As I say, we're just young & a bit nieve.

Who said he was from New York

He is from Ballineen in West Cork and if you try and tell people from there different .... they will ate ya, he is held in very high regard because of the time he lends of the pitch training youths at home and for the club, apparently a great man for turning up at stuff. Meant to be great to talk to, and ya his yime on the field b ollixing a lines man or givin' out to the ref was great, no to mind be a great player and most definitely ......... the man was/is City to the core, i dont think/ i hope he isn't gone from us and if he can pass down some of his determination and involved attitude on the pitch then we will be set. The man is visibley a great asset to the club and i for one will gladly pay at the door if there is a testimonial for Pat and himself, and if not we should demand that they be given some recognition.

Meanwhile can some one work out 16 yrs X at least 15 hrs a week if not more = ???? The man is the perfect example of the way every player should be. If you read this thread ..... we all seem to forget his goals scoring record .... it is his attitude and loyality he is being remembered for, it really should be both.
The SFAI are the governing body for grassroots football in Ireland, not the FAI. Its success or the lack of is all down to them.

    Where is Johnny C from

I'm sure he grew up in Roscommon and so old programmes say. A friend of mine from the 'Common says that they local soccer coach still gets abuse to this day for leaving him on the bench in some underage game.

However I've also seen it said on programmes that he was born in the Big Apple

Perhaps one of the funniest quotes I saw in an old City programme was:

    John Caulfield: Born: Roscommon/New York!!!

As one of the older city fans (Pre-Calufield) I have to agree with the sentiment of all the messages here. The guy was a true professoinal and a gentleman through-out his career.
Always worked his butt off even when the cause was lost.
Also he had time for the fans - first to applaud the supporters - At the Bohs game in Dalymount 2 years ago he got most of the team to autograph the program for my young fella.
I'd love to see him as manager at some stage.

The official end of a great era in Cork soccer and one of the most devastating striking partnerships ever seen in the domestic game. He should always be remembered for what he did for City on the pitch and not for the so-called gang of 5 sh!t off it. John and Skippy should both get immediate testimonials.
Thanks for the memories and all those days you brightened up our lives,John and the very best of luck to ya for the future!!!
