He is one for the heroics - like his run and assist against Italy.

It's his ability to defend on a systematic basis that worries me.

The Bull McShane put Hull 2-1 up in extra time at White Hart Lane, but they couldn't hang on and it's going to penalties. Surely to be settled by a Paul McShane penalty.

Well he hasn't scored the winning penalty, but he did convert his in style off the bar. Meyler and Quinn had already scored very well-taken penalties. Could be into a second round soon of kicks too.

    edit: Elmohamady misses

Shame Hull went out, they seem to be playing really well, nice to see an Irish central? midfield taking on Spurs and competing,

I only saw the shoot-out myself, but as Meyler went to take his penalty, the commentators said he'd put in an immense performance and didn't deserve to miss. Thankfully, the Irishmen put in 100% of their penalties, and it was left to the English, Argentinians and Egyptians to miss the shots on goal

No doubt the Irish are saving their misses for internationals!!!

    Typical McShane ......
Just after getting back into the first team and playing well, he gets seriously injured in a collision with his own goalie.
Stretchered off, after 4 or 5 minutes attention. Something with his ankle I think.

He's very injury prone. Like most Irish players. Second time this season he's lost his place in the team after a brief - and impressive - run.

That's Brady, Quinn and McShane who've had terrible luck with injuries this season. Henderson and Meyler who have lost years of their careers. Long, who took months to get back to his best after Hutton deliberately tried, and succeeded, in injuring him.

I thought he had broken his ankle.

HULL CITY boss Steve Bruce says defender Paul McShane may not have broken his ankle, but he still fears the defender has suffered serious ankle ligament damage in the 1-0 defeat by Southampton tonight.
McShane was carried off on a stretcher after a 12th-minute incident led to a lengthy stoppage, forcing City into a reshuffle and the Irishman off to hospital for scans.
The Tigers eventually succumbed to a 69th-minute goal from Jose Fonte, but their immediate concerns are with McShane, who has undergone x-rays which appear to show no break has been suffered.
When asked about the prognosis, Bruce said: "It’s worrying, he’s had x-rays and there’s nothing broken.
"We expect ligament damage but until we see scans tomorrow we don’t know how severe."
It's interesting how Bruce seems to understate injuries, there appears to be no break which Bruce takes as there
being no break. Some breaks do not show up well, however whatever it is it does not sound too bad, a minor break
    should heal quickly I expect.

I think Bruce gave a fair off the cuff assessment. Considering McShane had just come back into the team, after 10 weeks out with ankle ligament damage, Trap possibly would have said 'McShane was finished - I have never seen a player recover from 2 such injuries in row'

    The full quote from Bruce.
“Paul has had x-rays and they revealed no break,” said Bruce.
“But if you saw the incident like I did, the video evidence doesn’t look great and his ankle was in a horrible position, so we fear ligament damage and as we know, ligament damage can sometimes be worse than a break"

That is absolutely rotten luck for him after working so hard to get back in the team. Hopefully it's one that looks worse than it is.

Unlucky for Paul. He looked to have got himself back into the team alongside Davies.

I think he gets unfair stick from some Irish fans. He has normally played at RB for Ireland which isn't his best position.

McShane has been offered a new deal at Hull but won't stay if he doesn't have a chance of playing: http://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/socc...future-4705711

I don't blame him, Steve Bruce always picks his useless son along with the overrated and equally useless Davies.

Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
