I'm sickened by his behaviour and hope that this proves to be the worst move he could have made in his career!

Surely the big pub have grounds for a complaint to UEFA over this?

not if they were in breach of contract. it looks like foley was being an asshoIe alright but if there was no written agreement to defer payments then he's legally in the clear. I'd say good riddance to him. The league is better off without players like him.

I don't know the details of his argument with Bohs but I wouldn't be reserving much bile for him to be honest. Off with him and best of luck to him, I don't think he'd set the world alight here anyway.

Fair play though, he's played professional club football in four countries now so he's gotten around a bit alright.
The ball is round and has many surprises.

But presumebly he only kicked up a fuss over it after talking to Gent, which is 100% illegal no matter what he was owed.

So, how much for some spay paint and tickets to Belguim?

Not sure actually, I'd guess that if it went to court a judge would say that as soon as the contract was breached he was entitled to speak to others. I'd agree that he only kicked up a fuss once he thought he had a way out though.

Ghent MUST have spoken to him long before he decided he had a problem with the post-dated cheque.
They would surely have spoken to him around the time of the Inter-Toto games, where the Ghent manager openly said he would like Foley to play for them.

    1. He seems to have been aware that they were not prepared to pay a transfer fee for him.
    2. He quite obviously knew he had to be a free agent for them to be interested.

The only way he would have known this was if he spoke about a possible move to Ghent, and this must be "tapping up".

Yeah, I agree with what you're saying but I would expect that he was legally entitled to talk to people once the date for payment passed and he hadn't received his money. I suspect that he has acted within the letter of the law but not within the spirit of the law. Maybe if you could prove that Ghent approached him before they knew his contract hadn't been honoured.
I guess the point is that once Bohs hadn't paid him on the original date he could basically do whatever the fcuk he wanted. Most players would attempt to come to an arrangement (as Bohs did) and would stick by that (as he didn't).

Would his contract have been up at the end of the season??? if so he is legally entitled to speak to other clubs in the last six months of his contract

Form what I heard he's just being acting the gob****e for awhile saying he was too good for the league when, as someone else pointed out, he didn't set the place alight with his performances. How many penos did he score?

I think it's comical the way Bohs fans want to 'get' Foley in Belgium and yet everyone of them have known he drinks in Club M at the weekends. Big men

I say good luck to him. his first interest is obviously money but then again eircom league players dont get paid enough to put loyalty over hard cash. i blame bohs never mind coming to an arrangement to pay him how about do pay it when they say they are going to pay it in the first place. he wont get very far in belgium either his overall career goals tally must be very low.

Id call €90,000 a year enough to stroll around, win a few headers and get 7 goals!
