Good stuff for the league !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
Republic of Ireland under-21 manager Don Givens has included four eircom League players in his squad for next month’s European qualifier against France at Turners Cross.
UCD goalkeeper Darren Quigley makes the cut ahead of Notts County’s Saul Deeney, who has fallen out of favour at Meadow Lane after failing to agree a new contract this summer.
He is joined in the squad by Stephen Paisley of Longford Town and Cork City pair Liam Kearney and Roy O’Donovan, who will be hopeful of making an international appearance on their home ground.
The remainder of the squad is along expected lines, with the majority – including Liverpool’s Darren Potter, Sheffield Wednesday captain Glenn Whelan, Brentford’s Jay Tabb and Leicester City’s Paddy McCarthy – enjoying good starts to the season with their respective clubs.
Goalkeepers: Henderson (Brighton and Hove Albion), Quigley (UCD).
Defenders: Foley (Luton Town), Kelly (Tottenham Hotspur), McCarthy (Leicester City), Fitzgerald (Bury), Sheehan (Leicester City), Paisley (Longford Town).
Midfielders: Flood (Manchester City – on loan to Coventry City), Potter (Liverpool), Whelan (Sheffield Wednesday), Kearney (Cork City), McGeady (Celtic).
Forwards: Tabb (Brentford), Doyle (Reading), Murphy (Sunderland), O’Donovan (Cork City).
